So here it is. My daily driven track car. It still has a long ways to go as far as weight reduction and race prep equipment, but it is far from stock as is. If you want lightweight this is it. I'm estimating the weight at 2600lb's~. Please excuse the dirty paint, it's the exact opposite of a garage queen. I drive this car EVERYWHERE I go and am not afraid to put miles on it. Long live my NSX! Let me know what you guys think.

Oh, and my list of mods so far, not counting weight reduction stuff:

Taitec JGTC exhaust

Sometimes I think I'm overboard with my car... until I'm reminded of how intense you are with your "Karen Carpenter' approach. Now I'm just a fat bloated overweight 15 year old... keep it up.

I had the privilege of driving this car ( i was a pussy so I didn't drive i hard), but damn it is a minimalist ride, and light as hell. The only way it can get lighter is if it loses a wheel or a body panel.

wow,
your list of mods were only half of that if it was last week.
you're spending money like vance!

I haven't updated that list in a while...... I'm still far far far far away from spending what Vance has spent, but after John's Gruppe M and a few other goodies I might be at around 1/2 of his figure. Deep breath, sigh

Allen, I hope San Fran is treating you well. The car as it is now is even lighter than when you drove it. Probably by at least another 50lb's or so.

Hey, this in kinda off topic, but if you or anybody else in the Bay Area know who this is

and are into this type of music i'm going to be up there on the 28th (Saturday) with a pretty large group of people (some cute Chinese girls as well ). He's spinning at 1015 and the party goes til 7am:biggrin:

Car looks great! About time you had a thread on your ride. lol There are more things in store for this car in the HP department.... =) With the light weight and increase in HP you should break off the majority of the NA NSX's! Who needs a lotus elise when you got this thing! keep up the good work man.

Simo, look at all those ammenities!! Is that a lexus? Ebrake, glove box, center console lid, climate control, steering wheel trim, stock harnesses, latches, SRS wiring and airbags, tar mats, not to mention a passenger seat and rails...

j/k ;)

More to go. This is a road long travelled. As always Keep up the good work and happy tracking this summer.

John I know I know...... I took those pics last week. The passenger side airbag is out now, as well as the srs unit and wiring, no more tar on the floorboards as well. I have hole in my floorboard now  I might leave the console and the glovebox lid because i'm using the car as a daily driver and I need a place to store my registration and other goodies. The passenger seat I need. The ladies already hate my car as is, imagine if they had to sit on the floorboard

Pulling out all the big stuff was easy, it's the little stuff that makes you go crazy. Next to go is the headliner, a pillar covers, oem seatbelts, and those heavy steel sidemounts and sliders.

Do us all a favor and put it on some scales so we can find out the real weight. I would say your a little exagerated at 2600 even, but who would know till you get on the scales? There has to be a recycle yard or truck stop near you. We always just go down to the recycle yard and ask if we can jump on the scale, they always let us. Most of the time the guys think its pretty funny.

Anway let us know.

We're going to have a group weight in sometime in May. I'll have my weight down to the last pound.

Right now i'm just giving my best estimate, which I believe is pretty accurate. There are many people questioning my weight without looking at what I have taken off........ So you think my estimated weight of 2600lb's is a little exaggerated? Let me know what you think it's closer to?

Here is a list of the stuff I took off so far. Look it over and tell me if 2600lb's sounds more reasonable. The weight may be more or less for certain items, but net net the total should add up to about 400lb's. I'm not done yet by the way......

-windshield wipers 4
-windshield wiper motor 20
-spare tire 30
-spare tire bracket 2
-oem stereo headunit 5
-door speakers 10
-passenger footwell sub 4
-center speaker 1
-sound deadning padding behind the firewall panels (this stuff is heavy!) 10
-oem tool kit 15
-trunk carpet 10
-oem antenna 2
-oem cd changer 5
-fan on the passenger side of engine compartment 2
-oem rear bumper beam (this thing is HEAVY!!!!!!!) 45
-front and rear tow hooks 5
-oem carpets and floor mats 20
-oem door panels 25
-oem firewall panels 5
-ac system 40
-headliner 3
-passenger side airbag and srs unit 10
-tar sound deadning 5

Replaced Parts (Lighter)
-oem center console replaced with a thin (very very light) carbon fiber one 2
-oem cats replaced with Dali test pipes 15
-oem headers replaced with DC Sports headers 6
-oem exhaust replaced with Taitec JGTC Parallel 14
-oem spoiler replaced with bigass wing ~
-oem aluminum b pillars replaced with I's impact carbon fiber b pillars 2
-oem engine cover replaced with Cantrell Concepts CF engine cover 10
-oem shift boot replaced with NSX-R carbon fiber/mesh shift boot
-oem leather shift knob replaced with oem carbon fiber shift knob
-oem center divider window replaced with Dali lexan window 8
-oem battery replaced eith Oddsey 545 23
-oem rims with Volk LE37 ~
-oem seats replaced with Recaro Pole Position 40
-oem steering wheel replaced with Momo Tuner wheel and NRG hub 15

I'm not going to argue with anyone on +/- 1-2lb's on any one of the items listed above. I'm either at 2600lb's or within 50lb's from it. Also I never run with more than 1/4 tank of gas, if that makes any difference. Point being once I remove the rest of the climate control system, get a new exhaust, and get my lexan hatch with carbon fiber frame, i'll be well under the 2600lb mark.............

I cant comment on everything, however, since i just had my door panels off a day or two ago. I cant tell you that they are no where close to being 25 pounds total. I would also have a hard time thinking that the factory carpet is 20 lbs

The factory carpet is heavy, a lot heavier than you may think. The door panels weigh more than 7-8lb's each at least. So I might be off by a few pounds. I believe my 2600lb figure to be correct. If i'm off by a few pounds then i'll shave it off............ Still, can anybody honestly say that my numbers are so off that i'm not well under 2700lb's?

Just the following items get me down to about 2800lb's:

Rear bumper beam 45
Spare tire 30
Tool kit 15
Battery swap 23
Recaro seats 40
AC system 40

So you guys do the math and add up all the other stuff..... This isn't rocket science

Ready for my guess.....I'm going to go 2700. Make sure you post it up when you get on the scale.

My guesstimate is pointless, but I put my would put my money on 26xx. We are doing group weight in NSX meet next month.

Rear bumper beam 45
Spare tire 30
Tool kit 15
Battery swap 23
Recaro seats 40
AC system 40
----------------
Already 193lbs off just with above items, there are a crap load of other thing done that I wouldn't be surprised that it dropped another 150+lbs.

Entire stereo, windshield wiper, motor, I/H/E/Test Pipe, battery, gutted interior, lightweight battery. 26XX is a very safe guess, it is light. 25XX is well within reach for Simo's NSX.

by reducing the weight of the car, will it increase horsepower or will it just make the car faster getting there?
