Production End Carrera GT

Good, Porsche finally realized no one want their Hyper Exotic car. 911 and Caymen will do just fine. Do they really think the GT will meet the production goal? The car made absolutely no major impact in the world of Exotics, if they brought it out in 1999 before the burst of tech bubble, they could have avoid SLR/ENZO and sold a lot more than 1250...

Also, when everyone mentions or tihnk of porshe, they think of the 911. When you mention Ferrari, people think of the Enzo.

I wonder if they made money on this car?

Not me, the Enzo was my third thought. My first was "high maintenance" and then "red". :p My last thought about Ferrari was "NSX-wanna be" which then refocused my mind back on the NSX. :D

Trully tragic! That is without doubt the best porsche ever!

What is an even bigger worry is that an international car manufacturer like Porsche will stop production of a car because it doesn't pass emissions in just one state of one country in the world! Having said that, Porsche quoted that "half of our entire production is sold in California alone" so I suppose it makes sence...

After what I've read (official stuff, not rumours) they DID make money on the car.

The car is truly special in every way, I love it. I would have bought one if I could afford one. Without doubt.

Well Caymann is good but not as good as it could be. They don't want to make it better then the 911, for, eh, "good" reasons.

Anyway Carrera GT kind of cars are not supposed to fill up a market segment like SUV's, cheap sportscars (like Eclipse) MPV's etc.

They are built to show the world what a manufacturer can do, kind of.

VAG (Volkswagen-Audi Group) made the Bugatti Veyron. They make most money thru the family-models, but impressed the whole world by making a car with 1000 hp (bhp?) and capable of 400 km/h... (255 mph approax...). _I_ didn't like VAG before, but now I respect them because they really showed what they are capable off. :)

These kind of projects are more about showing off then earning money.

I do believe these projects have a positive effect on the rest of the carmodel-range. People who buy BMW 3-series know about the M3, and know that BMW really knows how to make sportscars too. And they feel kind of "related"... NSX did possibly have a effect on the Honda crowd too. "Can't affoard a NSX but I'll take the S2000" kind of effect... Or "I want a NSX but I can't affoard a sports car and a familycar at once, so I'll buy a Honda Accord Type R istead, at least I get a Honda with VTEC engine technology as in the NSX!" and so on...

Anyways it is healthy for high-end companys like Porsche and Ferrari to every once a while come up with a supercar.

This is definately a car i'd buy in 10 years (when I can maybe afford one... maybe not :( )

It is funny you said that, because I was thinking the same thing the other day, but I think this car will ALWAYS be expensive. Much like the Porsche 959 that still commands prices of $250,000 and above, I think the Carrera GT will always be a car that costs over $100,000.

Yeah, these cars doesn't get cheaper... They get bought by rich people and collectors and stay in that society...

Btw, Porsche 959 is the best Porsche of all time :)
