everytime I get gas, when I pull the gas lever, the door will not open normally (which is about 35% open),it only opens about 5% which is just barely open
when I close the lid, and open it up again it "usually" opens 35% like it should

I hope I am making sense, I might need to post pics if no one can understand me lol

it jus tgets frustrating when everytime I get gas I have to pull the gas level, push the gas lid back in, and then pull the lever again

if anyone has any solutions to this problem, let me know!

thanks,

Greg

btw doers it have to do anything with that little metal spring thing? between tyhe lid and the gas cap?

It's all about that spring, I think. What I ended up doing was I cut a small piece of rubber (from some scrap hose) and glued it to the inside bend of the spring (on one side). So, in essence, the rubber piece is there to force the spring apart and thus push the door open. When the fuel lid is closed, the rubber piece does what rubber does and compresses as it waits for the next time I pull the door release. :)

I removed the lid and opened the bend of the spring a little more, so that opens a little further than before.

I did that, but after some time the spring wouldn't spring back anymore. The "spring" doesn't seem to have much spring to it.

this is a great idea, but I hope there is a "cleaner" way to do this.
maybe an actual spring in the spring? hm...

It's actually not very noticeable because the piece of rubber is black and small. I'd take a picture of it, but I don't have my car with me right now.

so just a piece of rubber and super glue?

can anyone else chime in on this issue?

thanks

Just go to your honda dealer and get a new spring. I think, but am not 100% sure, that the spring is the same as the spring for a CRX. It'll solve the problem for many, many years.

Hmmm I just live with it. But after seeing this thread, I now have a couple options I never thought about.

Yay NSXPrime!

I had the same issue with mine. I bent the spring a bit and it improved somewhat. One interesting thing though --although the door still doesn't open very wide when I pull the lever up, it opens up wider when I use a little force in returning the lever to the down position. Strange, but true. Try it.

I have a mugen gascap cover and its a tight fit under the lid in there when its on. Now it provides *just* enough resistance against the lid to force it open everytime now.
