I was wondering if someone may be able to help a novice out? I have my eye on a 91 with 22K miles @ a dealership, which is asking $37,900 for it. I've been looking for a while now and considering the mileage (low), this seems semi-reasonable but I'm not sure. Of course I have to get the car checked out; make sure not in snap-ring range; etc. My question is this: if the car checks out, would YOU pay that price for the car? I've been following this forum for a while and everybody seems unbelievably helpful. Thanks for the input.

Depends on the color..

If you compare that to other cars for sale in this forum and other online sources then $33~$36 is an average for that kind of car with that low mileage.

Still I think it is a good price for low milaged Yet keep in mind Snap ring = $2200 on average to fix.

Car sounds good maybe $35k from owner, but add a few grand for the dealer to pay his overhead and make a profit in exchange for bringing you the convenience of looking all over the country.

The color is black and I would pay for the convenience of not looking all over the country, which is what I had been doing for 2 months now. I'd feel more comfortable with this purchase. I just hope my heart doesn't rule my mind. Thanks for the input.

Turk,
I paid 42 k for a 10k mile 91 last year. I knew it was a bit steep, but it was the car I wanted, and the REALLY low miles is what I wanted. I feel that 37 for an original (read: unpainted) 22k mile car is a VERY fair price from a dealer. Do your homework, make sure its THE car for you, and buy it, you'll never look back!
I buy and sell high end cars for a living now (didn't when I got my car) and it is VERY hard to get a good low mileage NSX for the price that that dealer bought the car for!

Good luck!!!

I paid $36,000 for an 18,900 mile red/black '91 NSX a few months ago, and this particular car is in show quality, 99 point condition and has never been in the rain. The chassis even looks like it was the day it was on the showroom back in '91.

If the black '91 you're looking at is as nice as the car I purchased, the dealer is not unreasonable at all in his asking price.

Also don't forget that this price is an asking price and you can probably negotiate a final sale price somewhat less than the asking price.

Now you're going to ask "How much less?" and of course that is the key question. If your'e serious, make them a counter-offer and play the game and see where you wind up.

I paid 37,500 for my 15k mile 91 in March of 99. I'm now at 26k miles. I have been offered more than that since and, most recently, was offered 37k from a wholesaler who planned on making 3-4k on it. Bottom line is that year is not so important, but rather condition is the determiner when factoring resale value. Paying 37 is not unreasonable at all and the beauty is you will be able to drive it for years and still get what you paid providing you don't rack the miles up huge. You might even make a profit after the new one comes out..... in fact, it's very likely. But who would ever sell it anyway!
