President Bush and Dad go fishing

my family and i are **continuous and current** supporters of a number of charities that provide assistance to those in need - red cross, amfam, aspca - to name a few.

Glad to hear it - and I think you have missed the point of my comments. This natural disaster was and is one of the worst we have seen in this country. It does absolutely no good to bad mouth anyone. The only good that can be done is to attempt to be part of the solution.
And please note that I have not resorted to any name calling such as others
(jeez - "pathetic whining" is not exactly playing nice).
When people use events such as this tremdous tragedy to show hate on others it drives a wedge between all.
No one person can be blamed for this, and to select one to condem is perverse.

Better fishing than cheating on their wives.
Better to be cheating on your wife than starting wars in foreign countries.

Altho I have no evidence he was "cheating" on Hillary. For all I know she has her own love live and has no problem with what Bill does.

Q: Why are there no pics of the President looting Wal Mart?

A: The 'Nawlins cops beat him to it.

In other words, the local authorities must shoulder the blame with the Feds for the failures in responding to Katrina. Moreover, given the scope of this natural disaster, with widespread devastation to the infrastructure of an entire region, I'm inclined to believe much finger pointing stems from 1) good old self-serving political posturing and 2) people's own frustration and desperation that the government is not the omnipotent entity they hoped it would be.
good humor :)

agreed that local authorities share some portion of the blame.

on your other points, no political posturing from me - i simply believe him to be a poor president; i do not believe the govt is omnipotent, but i (and apparently the president, his administration, the rest of the planet and a majority of our population) believe the US govt could have provided a **much* better response to the situation much sooner than it did.

frustrated? you bet - seems to me that a majority of the american population are frustrated with his inept execution of the job he's been entrusted with.

i was responding to your continued badgering that i should do something postive.

i'm not sure how you define "bad mouth"ing someone, but if what you're saying is the american public should remain mute on the various flavors of ineptitude shown on various levels (this just being the latest) by this administration, clearly, we have a difference of opinion.

per·verse Audio pronunciation of "perverse" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-vûrs, pûrvûrs)
adj.

1. Directed away from what is right or good; perverted.
2. Obstinately persisting in an error or fault; wrongly self-willed or stubborn.
3. 1. Marked by a disposition to oppose and contradict.
2. Arising from such a disposition.
4. Cranky; peevish.

if you believe that i - and the great majority of the american population - are perverse for criticizing the president and this administration for the lack of reponse to this natural disaster, then, PUH-LEZE, pass me the perverse button, i'll wear it proudly.

i'm not sure what fluffy-bunny world you live in, but when i see our country spending hundreds of billions of $'s to "bring democracy" to an area of the world that doesn't want it while our own citizens are left to fend for themselves in flooded streets because - i can't think of why, sorry - i think it's (past) time to get vocal.

the buck stops at the top. bush is the top.

Actually this Idea of the government being a giant corporation and George W is the CEO and therefore to blame for what the persons in state government do and do badly, Is utterly ridicules..George W Bush did not hire the governor of Louisiana or the mayor of new orleans and the governor is the person with the most blood on her hands bar none! If you don't understand how our government works here it is for you, The federal Government cannot send active troops into a state without the state declaring martial law or providing consent..the governor said NO! to the first wave of AID that the feds wanted to send because she wanted to remove all persons from the city and not bring them supplies...well you see what happened it took a week to get most persons that wanted to leave , out in those days many died this is her fault directly and not george bush's,

Then after that great idea she decides to declare war on looters and bring in 300 national guard troops back from Iraq and says "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will," but of course smart people like kanya West say that bush is hunting black people!

but I don't see you bad mouthing her cuz after all she is a woman democrat so that wouldn't fit with your partisan hackery....can you Imagine the political storm that would have come if george bush decided to overrule the female democrat governor and break the law to rush into Louisiana without her consent? you would be on here saying what a sexist pig he was,

there is no pleasing persons that have decided that george bush is the anti-christ you have made up your minds and will now blame everything you can that is wrong with the world on him. the rules for Off topic say "tread lightly on politics" so I am done if you people cant help but bash bush and break the rules than have at it.

BTW, Bodypainter, we didn't start the war in Iraq, Sadam was breaking the tenants of the ceasefire agreement for the last 10 years, we just decided to bite back, and clean up some terrorist training camps too.

"boy, where the HELL have i been"
I hope you have done something positive for the victims...

"i'm not in the least interested in hearing your hurricane war stories."
Don't care ... just do something other than pointing a finger - become part of the solution.

a final thought - I have a lot of respect for this man and his take on the situation:
More on Katrina
By Ben Stein

Fact: Katrina was a devastating storm. It left terrible damage to innocent people's lives and to property throughout the Gulf South.

Fact: There have been other storms as damaging and some far more damaging. What, then, is different about this storm? Here are a few tentative thoughts.

First, the incompetence of the local and state authorities in Louisiana and especially New Orleans was breathtaking. To issue a mandatory evacuation order without providing means of transport is almost criminally irresponsible. To take citizens to shelters where they would be beaten, robbed, and raped, and to provide no police protection for them was astoundingly incompetent. To allow armed gangs to shoot at rescuers was almost beyond belief.

Second, the response of the federal government is described as slow, and it was slow at first. But can anyone name a natural disaster in which more federal troops, supplies, and money have been dispatched as quickly as they have been done in this disaster? Bush's response has not been unusually bad, but amazingly powerful and swift. In other hurricanes, survivors have been left for weeks on their own. In Katrina's case, the whole affected area has been covered with money and aid and troops to restore order on a scale and with speed never seen before.

Third, the networks and newspapers have been quick to cry racism because so many of the victims were black. This is total nonsense. New Orleans is a mostly black city. Obviously, most of the victims of the storm would be black. No one has been able to point to a single instance in which black victims were mistreated because of their race by whites. In fact, just the opposite has happened. The whole story is of rescues and salvation by people of all races aimed at people of all races. In a gesture never seen before, the whole heart of the nation has taken in poor, bereft black families and sheltered them absolutely without regard to race. This is a mirror of the basic goodness of Americans and the disappearance of racism as an acceptable action basis of American life. It is also a measure of the total absence of racism in the heart of George W. Bush. The media may play this as a story of race versus race, but that is pure incendiary fantasy, and dangerous nonsense.

What is the real story of Katrina is (I suggest) not so much that nature wrought fury on land, water, people, property, and animals, not at all anything about racism, not much about federal government incompetence. The real story is that the mainstream media rioted.

They used the storm and its attendant sorrows to continue their endless attack on George W. Bush. Wildly inflated stories about the number of dead and missing, totally made up old wives' tales of racism, breathless accounts of Bush's neglect that are utterly devoid of truth and of historical context -- this is what the mainstream media gave us. The use of floating corpses, of horror stories of plagues, the sad faces of refugees, the long-faced phony accusations of intentional neglect and racism -- anything is grist for the media's endless attempts to undermine the electorate's choice last November. It is sad, but true that the media will use even the most heart breaking truths -- and then add total inventions -- to try to weaken and then evict from office a man who has done nothing wrong, but has instead turned himself inside out to help the real victims.

In the meantime, George Bush does not lash out, does not attack those who falsely accuse him of the most horrible acts and neglect. Instead, he doggedly goes on helping the least among us. I don't know how he does it, but we are very lucky he does. As for truth, it eventually may be salvaged from the flooded neighborhoods of The Crescent City, but not as long as there is a lie to use to hurt an honest man trying to do the best he can, and hundreds of thousands of brave, tireless men and women who do more than point fingers and tell tales. The Katrina story is a disgrace to the people who are "reporting" it while pouring gasoline on a fire. They and their crusade against George Bush are the real stories, and they are dismal ones.

Again I restate - I hope you give generously to your charity of choice.

I don't know if a former Nixon advisor and speech writer should be considered the most reliable and unbiased person to quote on a situation such as this. He can't be all bad though, he did appear in Ferris Bueler's Day Off and host a game show on Comedy Central.
