Are there any NSXers in the Portland/Vancouver area interested in getting together for rides or track events?

Please indicate if you're a member of NSXCA.

Do you mean Vancouver Washington or Vancouver BC? Well I'm from BC and would be willing to come to a track event for sure, just let me know.

I've been itching to run at PIR myself, but don't know when/how to do it.

-Can I race with ANY car club (Porsche, BMW, etc.)?
-Must I register with the track and pay any fees?
-Do I need a helmet?
-What days of the week are available?

I'll call PIR tommorrow and post any information they can provide.

I'm also looking for a way to hit PIR. I just got an e-mail from Mr. Kenneth Sax, saying if we can get something together, we may be able to get a small amount of financial backing from the NSXCA perhaps.
In Any case I am also a member of CSCC (cascade sports car club) and will be attending my first meeting next month. They seem to be in the know as to track events. If any of you guys are up for some sort of NSX get together or track event let me know. I'm certainly all for it.

I would also be interested, either for a get together or possibly a track event. I don't know much about track event participation yet, quite honestly, but would love to attend for the visual spectacle

multisync23,

For the love of God man! We must keep you off the track with the blower and all. You will devastate the place! I'll forward the email I recieved from Tes. He has all the links, schedules. Apparently you'll need a snell 95 helmet with nomex liner (I heard this from one of the BMW guys).

From what I understand you can race with any of the clubs. You just have to be a member of one of them.

Here is the links for the rest of the crew via Tes,

Mabee we should have a Portland division of the Northwest NSX club and schedule track time as one of the major groups like the Porsche, BMW, Alpha. By default the guy with the Blower is CEO

It's very difficult for the NSX Club to field enough cars to hold its own track events on a cost-effective basis (outside of NSXPO, of course).

What we've done elsewhere is to encourage NSX owners to sign up for a particular event held by one of those other marque clubs, so we can still all hang out at the track together. It's easy to do with clubs who have trouble filling their events, not easy where events are usually oversubscribed.

hey TES, would it be possible for you to contact the BMWCCA and see if they'd mind us NSXCA'ers dropping in on their next track day? Maybe we can arrange for some sort of cost effective event thingamajiggy..

I'll be in town on the 7th so count me in for attending. I'd like to just drive the track and not necessarily race though. With a sportshift I don't think I'd be that competitive anyway plus my car is stock.

I called PIR. The race office mentioned two ways to track our cars:
1. Cascade Racing Club (503) 245-5479
2. SCCA (503) 292-3757

He mentioned that both of these clubs will require that you attend a class and, I'm assuming, log time with an instructor. SCCA and Cascade's track reservations can be found here: http://www.teleport.com/~pir//schedule.html

It would be nice to run with the BMW club on the 7th. Hoping someone can post their contact information.

Just got off the phone with the membership chairman of the local BMW Club, his name was Greg. The BMW Club is affiliated with the Porsche Club and the Alpha Club, therefore if you’re a member of either one you can track your car with the others without paying another club fee…$35/annually. Track fee is $85...so, if your not a member of either and want to track your car it'll cost you $120.

They run 4 groups: novice, intermediate, advanced, and high performance. All first timers obviously start in novice...with only two events under my belt I plan on, and was recommended, to run novice again. They run rain or shine. Last event had 31 novice and 102 total drivers so it was pretty full...should pay in advance to ensure a spot. They were low on instructors last time, yet he said it will be much different on Oct. 7th.

I ran into a guy at work who belongs to the BMW club. He told me to bring a snell 80 helmet (or better), fire extinguisher and remove everything lose you don't need at the track from the car.

Rules vary from one chapter to another, and BMW ACA is a different club from the national-based BMW CCA. I admit that I'm not familiar with BMW ACA, but I suspect their Snell requirement is not Snell 80, which is a standard that came out 20 years ago, but rather Snell 90, which is what most clubs are requiring these days. Also, it's possible BMW ACA requires fire extinguishers, but most BMW CCA events don't.

More on Snell ratings at http://www.smf.org

It will be close one if I can do laps with you guys. I am going to try and get my ride back together in time. I just replaced the spool valve gaskets and had the exhaust droped expecting the new RM exhaust to arrive but, it is not here... I will try and slap the stock exhaust back on in time. Otherwise I will check you guys out doing a few laps from the bleachers.

Like nsxtasy said he probably meant Snell 90 or better as that's what most clubs look for. If you are buying a new helmet, get Snell 95. The Snell 2000s will be out soon and that means the 90s will probably be phased out of many club events in the not too distance future.

I missed all of you guys. I was riding along with my friend in an M3 doing laps in the intermediate class since I arrived to late for novice class. Who ever had the white NSX was advanced so I never got to meet that dood. Who had the white NSX in advanced group? I wanted to check out the red supercharged NSX. I didn't see it there.

Scott I guess we missed you. Todd and I were there. Todd left around noon and I stayed until around 3pm. I rode a couple of laps with Winn(sp?) (white NSX) and a guy from work in the "HP" M5. Todd and I parked near a red NSX. Was that you?

Yes, I had the red NSX. I think you guys were all out doing laps with other people. I was right behind the M5 for the 3pm lap. Nice car.

I joined the BMW club and should make it next time. Looks like Alpha club is on the 15th. I will try and get there early.

There were about three spin outs on turn 3 that I saw. I am glad I rode with someone else to get an initial overview of the track and the lines to take.

Did you guys make it to the class?

Naw I flew home the night before and was beat. I didn't get out there until mid-morning. I didn't join the club but should have. I guess I didn't think of while I was there. I was to into the event.

I'm going to try and make it out next week as well. I won't bring my car if it's wet though. I already know how it doesn't handle on wet pavement. Actually after talking with the guy I was with who has the M5 I think I might want to do a couple of things before tracking my car - change brake fluid to higher quality, betters pads, and maybe a different set of rims with race tires. He thought I'd chew through my OEM tires pretty fast.

I also didn't make it to the class. I heard the Cascade Club School does a good job. I might try it out on Friday.

The red supercharged NSX, and its driver, were sleeping. The BMW guy called me on Friday night to give me the when/where details. When he said to be there at 8:00 am on Saturday. I had to pull out (already had late night plans). Too bad, 'cause when I stopped by Saturday afternoon, a Bimmer guy said 60 or so cars showed up and everyone got in 6 20 minute sessions. That's 2 solid track hours.

I want to run with the Alpha Romeo club this Sunday if they will allow. I emailed them and am waiting for a reply. I'll post details if they're open to letting non-Alphas run with them.

I only saw one spin out in the HP class.. the red datsun race car in turn 12 .. hit the dirt and lost some metal pieces. What other cars did the dance in turn 3?

BTW the NSX IMO handled the course a lot better than the M5. The NSX was like on rails and only once started to slide through the festival turns. The M5 felt like it was about to plow but didn't. I think race tires helped a lot. The other thing I noticed was the back-end would start to drift under power but when you slowed in a corner the back-end would lift up. A completely different ride than the NSX. The M5 was fast as we got it up to about 135/140 in the straight (didn't have the festival turns in the intermediate class). Never got the NSX above 115 because the festival turns were in play for the advanced class.

The NSX averaged about 60-80 through the turns while the M5 was slower, I think because it was the intermediate class and there was traffic so we had to back off.

That one white M3 in the HP class with the orange lens covers really kicked along with the Elise. However I would have liked to have seen the 360 Modena go out.

All in all a lot of fun but it would have been nice to see more NSXs out there.

hey Multisync, are you the Paul with the Red supercharged NSX that gave me a ride at Acura of Portland?

And uh..if the Alpha club says ok, Do you think they might let me tag along and hit the track?

I'm not Paul. There's two or three other s/c NSX's in town and they all go to Acura of Portland for service. I've only owned the car for 3 weeks.

If the Alpha club lets me run on Sunday, you can run your car or ride with me if you like.

Paul doesn't track his NSX that much anymore. He typically tracks a gutted white integra, which he started racing in SCCA racing. I didn't see him there Saturday.

The owner of the 360 Modena had some kind of electronic throttle response problems during his first session. Must be nice to have a Lotus Elise as a backup car....then again, sometimes he brings his F50, F40, or Lotus 340R.

Hal, it was nice to meet you and your son...glad you got a ride around the track.

You guys should be able to get in with the Alpha club if you call early this week. I'm leaving town tomorrow morning and I won't return until next Monday. I was hoping to track my car with Team Continental on the 21st, yet unfortunately it will probably be in the body shop....someone backed into my unoccupied NSX today in a parking lot. (big truck didn't see the low NSX parked behind it) Hood is crickled and the front bumper is gouged...hopefully the radiator and other parts aren't damaged under the hood. (thank goodnes for vacation, I need to relax)
