nope thats a mouse living in there.

when I got my fire damaged 04 it had poop and stuff like that in the same spot.

when you remove it look for poop

see how its all chewed looking and the bottom layer is urine from their bedding

also check your wires they chew them, and open your airbox like your gonna change the air filter
its a perfect spot to make a nest. trust me I know
start car sucks in baby mice into intake car stalls LOL

ur saying mice drag that insulation in there??

I've seen some crazy stuff before on Prime, but this might take the cake...

Are they going for rides too? How do they get in there? Now I'm creeped out wondering if this can happen to my car. That's crazy... If it was April I'd think this is an April fools joke.

Well I know my car was stored by the previous owner for years. I removed the insulation, there is no damage to wiring. I have been through most of the rest of the car, so im not concerned about any other damage to the car.

Yeah agree with Shawn too, seen this on other cars in the past, but first time on an NSX. I know of one guy, who's cars wiring was destroyed by vermin, it was ate through in so many places that the repair bill outweighed the cars value.

Yes they can do!

Friend of mine had a problem with his 4x4, one day it just wouldn't start and was throwing up all kinds of faults, lights were random and various other issues. The car was quite new as well, anyway it was left into the dealer and after a long LONG search, they found chewed wires and holes.

Anyway to cut a long story short, they found a nest in one of piping that carries the air to the cabin air vents! There was vermin still in it.

Lmao... I thought Shawn was trolling until halfway through the thread!

You mean a mouse is going into the walls and attic, picking up owens Corning R14, carrying it across the garage, carrying it into the NSX, to build a warm comfy bedroom inside the 1/4 panel?

its no joke, they climb up thru the bottom of the engine or fender liner
and then there is a nice TUBE to climb into called the air intake snorkle.
that leads to the airfilter then the throttlebody then the engine then the engine catches fire.

another spot I found poop it the front bumper beam they climb up into the front and its a perfect spot for them to make a nest.

after I found the rear on my 04 with poop I looked for more and found it in the front bumper took it off and there was string, rubber chunks, cotton, cloth held the bumper beam vertical and it all fell out it then stunk like urine for a few days.

Could a previous owner have put that in there as maybe a sound deadener? Was it only that side?

well it depends on the house or where they are getting their nest building material.

I have seen rats carry stuff in their mouth around sundown running down powerlines and their destination looks to be at least a city block long before they climb down.

so they could be getting building material from down the street

who really knows.

if you car sits for long periods of time people need to check

oh and also they climb into the nice cozy muffler.

Do as I do, I placed in the garage a ultrasound diffuser, the sound is inaudible to human ears but unbearable for rodents, I've never had a problem with these pests

Yup, this is mice. Happens a lot when cars are stored. Not always insulation, but that mouse knew his insulating properties .

So do I need to worry about this every winter when the car just sits for a few months?

The very first thing and main thing you should look into is, how clean the surrounding area is and clean your garage is. They thrive of areas with easy access to scraps etc, so keeping your place free from this is a big help. The easier they can get food means they will nest somewhere close by. Keep lids good a tight on garbage cans and if for example you have a dog that shares the garage or close to that, try and keep its food safely out of the way too.

My friend that had the nest in the heater vents, seen a mouse carrying dry dog food across the floor of his garage and into a crevis in the roof!

A couple of moth balls around the base of each tire will keep them away during winter storage.

A good cat or dog will help as well. I had a Siberian Husky that would hunt them out and take care of any mouse issues on our property.

I mentioned this in another thread recently. This is why I recommended if you store your car, ALWAYS set the climate control to recirculate, since I have pulled this type of "nest" out of the fresh air vent in the front a few times. Moth balls under the car significantly helps, and the less access our rodent buddies have the better:).
