Super Taiku is an multi-stage endurance battle similar to our American Le Mans Series. 2002 Super Taiku Round 3 is 480km (nearly 300 miles!) at Suzuka Circuit. Many of Japan's finest tuners compete as well as use the series to test various products in the harsh racing conditions.

Speed Inc. and BP/Advan are fielding NA1 NSXes in Class 3 (RX-7s, M3s, S15s, etc.) In addition, the famous Honda tuner, Spoon, is fielding a S2000 and Civic.

Similar to JGTC and other racing series, the series has 8 rounds that the teams collect points at each stage based on finishing position within class to accrue as many as possible for championship.

Round 3 was placed at the beautiful Suzuka Intl Circuit. The Speed Inc. NSX (TAITEC sponsors the Speed NSX and conducts product endurance testing during the racing) had an unfortunate incident during qualification that lead to a spin and heavy body damage. However, by working through the night on Saturday, the team was able to have the NSX ready in driveable condition by Sunday.

The BP/Advan NSX on the other had has done quite well. The series is still very early in the season, and it is difficult to forecast the results. The BP/Advan NSX currently has 15 points, while the Speed NSX has 6 points (you can find the current rankings here http://www.so-net.ne.jp/s-taikyu/2002/round3/rnkng.html ).

The Speed NSX this year is piloted by Mr. Sakai (who is the president of Lechers/RITMO - the makers of various NSX products in Japan).

The Spoon S2000 and Civic on the other hand are performing very strongly with 3rd and 4th rankings in Class 4 with point rankings very near the 2nd ranked competitor. At Suzuka, the Spoon S2000 team took a 3rd place podium finish. The Spoon team has left a wide margin of points between the following teams, however, anything can happen at this stage.

Speed, TAITEC, and Spoon work very closely together, and it's not uncommon to see the team's pit mechanics working on each other's cars. It is possible that Speed will also be fielding their S2000 at the Pokka 1000km race this year.

Stay tuned for future updates from ScienceofSpeed!
