Pesky oil leak, rear bank

I see this a lot on other forum. New member would bump really old dead thread. I dont understand why. What is the purpose? Is it a Bot? Or troll?

Nice way to kick off your account by bumping a FIVE YEAR OLD post . . . . Way to go.

You really do have a problem with anyone and everyone don't you? Get a grip. Did you ever think maybe she did a search for oil leak and this thread popped up? So she decided to respond. You commented on my post recently when I was asking for advice on reupholstering a seat bottom. Why do you bother wasting your time reading the post and responding if you aren't interested in it. The old adage applies, If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.....learn to relax and keep your snarky sarcasm to yourself.

Bumping this back up. I have a leak coming from at least one of these screws on my front head. On my 92 there are two screws, one stacked on top of the other, with the smaller one being on the bottom. I'm fairly certain that the smaller one is the 10mm that is meant for testing vtec operation with compressed air. Page 9-53 of the 91 FSM says that the torque spec is 14 ft/lbs and to replace the washer as well. Based on the parts diagram the upper screw is 16mm, and also includes a sealing washer. Three questions-

1. What the heck is the upper larger screw for, and what is the torque spec?

2. The FSM says there is a 10mm sealing washer for the smaller, 10mm vtec sealing screw. Did anybody find that, or replace it?

3. What kind of "thread sealer" did you guys use?

Maybe it's the photo, but it looks to me like the oil is dripping down from the valve cover over that casting seam in the head. In my experience, most oil leaks around the heads are due to the valve cover gaskets. The problem is most dealers re-use the gaskets after a service and also do not properly clean the head mating surface. The rubber gasket, especially if old, takes a set and when re-used, does not seal properly. Then, you end up with these kind of seeping oil leaks all over the engine. I'd take a white paper towel and wipe around the gasket mating area to see if you have any oil. It might be the source of your problem.

I'd also suggest the spray the hell out of that area and check later again if it's really the screws.
