People keep trying to race me...

I have been driving the car around for a couple of weeks now, and am noticing all kinds of cars driving pretty aggressively (changing lanes a lot) to catch up to me, pull up alongside me, wait a few seconds and then speed away...

First it was kids in Evos and 3 series, then as I got more confident in the car and started driving it a bit harder it was guys in M3s and Audis, not to mention the little VW hatchbacks and the one rebadged RSX with purple wheels...

It's like they want to get a ticket, lose their license, or possibly kill someone. And for what, I wondered? So you can tell your friends that you smoked an NSX in your possibly faster but definitely uglier car?

But then, in a random google search, I found this:

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=124

Explains it all, doesn't it? There is a section just for "kill stories". Because apparently, pulling away from someone on the highway (at illegally high speeds) who may or may not have even been trying is a "kill".

Note that I am not above the "dreams" that people occasionally have around here, but this is in RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC on the highway. Not exactly the "open road".

This is a very common thing we all nsx owners encounter, I just smile and let them win, Batman will tell a different story though

Had a cocky 20 something in an M3 approach me @ the gas station and shouted that he wanted to race me. I replied in disgust with I'll only race if your engine is in the back of your seats and walked away he looked confused for a bit and just walked away and left me alone. It was hard to keep from laughing.

LOL...that is a good one

i hit the sos sc since this very fast old 5.0 was pestering me on one of my moody days. the rest is history......

So SoS SC passes smog?

I have no problem ignoring those people completely. I just found it telling that they have a "kill stories" section on their forum. Totally shows the mentality...

only thing the sos sc doesn't have is a carb eo#. otherwise i passed the sniffer

Happens to me frequently also. Sometimes though, you do not want to get bullied or pestered but if you do, you gotta stand up & let em have it. That's what the car is made for. Should also invest in a good radar, it has save me $$$$ many times over.

Must be a right of passage/ownership thing. I get challenged most often when I'm just cruising along 5mph under the posted limit. Sometimes it feels like I'm driving an aluminum magnet trolling for little boy racers. I would never trade my DL for bragging rights with a blown Civic. The M3's are particularly enticing but I save my wrath on them for the track where they are just minor annoyances. Speed safely

I encountered one of those on the freeway last week. I had one of those Chevy Cruze tailgate me for 1 sec and wanted to race. I didn't want to waste my gas money on his ass so I just ignored him and laughed AT him, not with him LOL.

Or most of the time people are just curious & follow you to see what it is that you're driving since this is a limited pro car.
Just this morning a guy in a white geometro tailed me & pace me for at least a good 5 miles, comes to find out he was filming me with his cell phone when at one point he was right on my bumper. People never fail to amaze when in an NSX i gotta tell ya.:wink:

It is amazing how beautiful the NSX looks on the road, every time I see one on the road, it takes my breath away, besides meets it is so so rare to see one on the road and when they do see one I can see them chasing you down to look at it, happens to me yesterday in rush hour a gentleman in a 350z swerve from lane to lane I can see him in my rear view, and when he caught up gave me two thumbs up, I gave him one thumb as well

Strange... no one ever makes eye contact with me or gives smile/thumbs up, they just drive aggressively.

I live in the Bay Area where there are just a TON of NSXs around, I think before I had one I would see one about once a week while out and about. So I think people here are a bit more used to it

I just let them win and laugh. I'm not trading my DL, personal safety or NSX for bragging rights over some douchebag in a riced out chevy cobalt.

I think the JDM-badged "Honda" RSX with the purple wheels was the worst. It doesn't actually start out as a bad looking car, but that particular example was hideous.

I try to keep a copy of my last speeding ticket handy...and wave them off.
If its at a gas station (or while we are stopped somewhere), I'll ask what kind of race (curves, 0-60, top speed...) because I have to go home and get my "fast" car...and smile!

In general, when I had a Trans Am (from the late 70s), I was often taking up challanges. As I have gotten older and wiser (and cheaper) and the car has gotten more expensive/capable...I wave off the challenges as I have more to lose than to gain.

I live in the bay area too, but have a completely opposite experience. Virtually every day I strap on my NSX, inevitably I will get someone wanting to talk to me about the car. Gas stations, parking garages, stop lights or at speed, I get thumbs up everywhere I go. This car makes me feel like a rockstar.

Also, I don't know what part of the bay area you're from, but here in the eastbay an NSX is a very rare commodity. In terms of exotics, nothing here but 911's, F-cars, Lambos, Bmw's & Vettes.

It happens to me quite a bit after I modded my NSX, but I just brushed it off and let them fly past me. I could care less about racing; more less about bragging rights

Hmm... I live in SF and work in Cupertino, so I spent a lot of time on Hwy 280. No thumbs up, just people commuting and looking for some excitement in their lives by flooring their Audi S4...

Problem solved, I just need to head over to the east bay sometime. Don't really go over there much since I broke up with a girl who lived in Union City, but that's another story
