Passive/Aggressive moderator behavior

I listed a car for sale in the "NSX for Sale" forum. The car sold. I closed the thread and a moderator inserted the following in my post:

Now I would feel guilty if I did not donate to Prime. Now where is that paypal link?

Why not require a donation before allowing one to open a "for sale" thread, rather than passive/aggressively guilting or embarrasing one into a donation after they've sold their item? This has left a bad taste in my mouth about Prime. I am substantially less likely to donate after seeing a message like that. Is this supported by the site administrator (Lud), or is this just one of the moderator's idea?

An answer to my last question would be much appreciated.

Thank You

P.S. All of my leads and the buyer came via Auto Trader (my intention is not to criticize the Prime Classifieds, but to preempt someone from saying I received benefit from my ad and thus should donate)

Although I understand the efforts to gain more support for this site (and I'm one of the supporters although I'm not a Moderator) I can hardly believe that a Moderator alters a member's post in that way. If that is true I wouldn't call it good behaviour.

Guilty! It was meant as a joke and in no way was intended as anything personal. I guess I have become a changed man after seeing so many ads being posted by people with 1 or 2 posts (this one in particualy not being the case). Signing up on Prime just to sell a vehicle? I am not sure what it costs to run Prime, but ads make people money and giving something back would be a nice way to thank Lud. I suscribe to many sites that charge a yearly fee just to view threads! Prime=free.
This are my personal thoughts and opinions and are not endorsed by NSXPrime.

I have officially slipped.......... :frown:

my take is that, so far, this is a model that works for lud... whether it's a profitable model or not... only lud and maybe a few others know that. my sense is prime could charge a minimum fee for both annual membership and advertising things >$xx's, but its lud's to do as he sees fit.

I check this site several times per day - I love it and enjoy reading everyones' thoughts, ideas, modifications, seeing their projects and their cars.

It never even dawned on me to contribute until I saw another member question his status. I promptly clicked the box and became a Platinum member - I love platinum. I hope that this site is supported by many as it is the most valuable research resource out there for our cars IMHO.

I can't even imagine owning an NSX without this site. I would be lost. There are so many talented terrific people on the forum that truly love their cars and helping other owners with them.

THANK YOU LUD.

I'm surprised one of the categories isn't called Titanium member.

funny that you mention recently contributing. i'm a 5 year member and only recently did i say "ok, enough freebies hal, time to give back."... i was embarassed that i hadn't done it up til that point.

now your post is calling to me to "do more". nag, nag, nag.

(edit)
i tried to upgrade from patron the champion and there doesn't appear to be an upgrade increment so i'll have to return the do multiple purchases for the upgrade. then i'll be guilt free (on this issue, at least ;) for awhile.

According to the support page you just have to add a $ 150 donation to the $ 100 a patron already has given

right. so when i look at the $ volumes available, when i read it, it goes from 100 to 250, no 150 available... or can you point me to that, please?

You can paypal any amount to Prime using this email address HERE. Or you can use any combination of the smaller amounts to equal the exact amount you are looking to donate.

Hi

Some of us probably donate every year. I try to remember to donate once a year. I have done so for the last two years. When the "guilt" catches up on me again I will donate again.

I think NSXPrime gives me so much that it would only be fair to help Lud run this place with some $.

I can only imagine how much data goes to and from the NSXPrime server. It must be a insane amout per month.

I must admit that I do look on both people's post count number and also their "status" when I read messages from them. If I was out to buy a NSX I would rather buy from a contributer and a "high" poster rather than a member that have only posted the ad and thats it. I understand how Anytime is a little upset when things like that happend.

Anytime you have sat in the corner long enough

Regards

 If you send a paypal sum to this mail adress you don't send your financial info - or am I wrong?

No. What John means is that you can use PayPal, a secure online website, to send funds to this e-mail account. You enter your information (credit card or bank account) into a form on a secure encrypted website that then puts these funds into the e-mail holder's account which they can then withdrawl or do with how they want. PayPal just uses e-mail as a unique ID or username.

I found it very difficult to find this information when I recently sent in a payment. I've petitioned Lud to make this more visible (a button or something up top) however, he's too humble. :) Lud, if you don't make it more visible, we're going to have to buy you LOTS of drinks at NSXPO.

It appears you may also have to petition Lud to recognize your contribution Chris, since you are apparently still deemed a "mere" registered user.

yes, but underneath that subtle veneer, we know he's a platinum vendor :)

I usually set aside some money every year to donate to ALL the forums that has been helpful to me. I rather donate to Prime than subscribe to a monthly magazine.
