Guys, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to paint the front NSX R chassis bar (already installed). I'm thinking a dark red would look sweet on an 02+ front end (the bar is very visible). Thoughts on durable paints?

Man, that's not going too be easy since it is installed. You could brush it on but that would look like crap. The best option would probably be to airbrush it but that would require some meticulous masking off to prevent overspray.

btw, When the bars i ordered finally arrive the front one is going to be painted LBBP.

It would be a good idea to remove the bar and then spray paint it with the color of your choice. Overspray has a way of finding its way onto places you don't want painted.

I wouldn't attempt painting while the bar is on the car for the aforementioned reasons of difficulty and the likelihood of getting over spray where you don't want it.

Given it's an aluminum piece and it's location, I would remove the bar and get it either powder coated or hard anodized.

If you paint the bar it will chip, it's in the direct line of fire for rocks and debris.

Two local nsx owners have polished their NSX-R bar (off the car of course), this would allow it to be more-visible, and also wouldn't be affected by rock chips.

i agreee. i've seen some fellow NSXers that painted it black and they did have paint chip.

do your self a favor. just leave it alone

just a thought.
how about accent it. get a NSX-R sticker and stick it on the bar.
(that's what i'll do once i get my NSX-R bar  )
Good example is Procar Specials

I've painted it black (NOT glossy) just to hide it. I like it discrete. Just my .02

The NSX-R sticker looks great! I may just go that route.

Agreed, any kind of spray painting would be a recipe for trouble. I don't want to take the thing off, because it would be a real PITA. Paint brush maybe, or do you think that would leave globs of paint?

BTW, the car is silverstone. Any other thoughts on cool colors (don't want too bright).

Am I the only one that never actually sees this thing?

I'd get asked about it frequently. I guess it's much more visible than I had thought. I think painting it black (maybe use black undercoat spray) is an interesting idea.

You know, it would look much nicer painted in Silverstone! Hell, I would even pay for it!

You guys DO KNOW that if the thing came painted then you'd be asking how you can strip it to show off the beautiful aluminum, right?

ditto  LOL

It looks like a piece of one of those bolt on bumper hitches. I'd paint it matt black to hide it.

The whole nose is painted all the way around the radiator opening so how will the bar be more affected than the rest of the nose?

Silverstone? Isn't that a Chevrolet color?

The car is painted in a manner that resists chips, and the bumpers are coated in flexible paint - rattle canning a piece of aluminum that makes a 90 degree angle to the direction of motion is not the same thing, it will chip.

Rattle canning? Mine is being painted by a professional that is also removing the emblem and repainting the nose

Now that you guys mentioned the chipping, I will have the clear bra material applied too it.

I wouldn't worry about chipping if you're having it professionally painted. You can't see it unless you're standing more than 10-15 feet away, where you'd never notice a few rock chips anyway. Suppose clear bra material would be easy to put on, but I really wouldn't worry about it.
