Do any of you guys use painter's tape to help winterize your cars? I was thinking about using some to block up both side scoops to prevent rodents from entering the engine bay.

I bought the lesser adhesive kind from 3M which claims "60-day clean removal" but I would plan to replace it every month throughout the winter. Should I be worried about it affecting the clearcoat if left on for multiple weeks at a time?

I wouldn't do that personally, seems like the rodents could eat the tape if they wanted. Toss a laundry sheet/moth ball in there if you want anti-rodent protection.

The side scoops are the least of your worries! Rodents have lots of access into the engine bay from beneath the car and are more likely to climb up the tires and wheels than try and jump up to the side scoops for entry.

If you think or know that you have rodent issues, buy some traps, bait them with peanut butter, set them out around the car and inspect regularly. I have heard that Bounce dryer sheets distributed around the car can be an effective rodent deterrent; however, I have no personal experience with them.

Better yet get a pellet gun!

As a rodent poison?

I prefer the trap. Less expensive and at least I know that they are dead outside the car. Nothing like getting into the car and wondering "what is that smell?".

lol.........no as a goofy joke....because some folks believe it cures all ills.

I am so out of touch with current culture! I was thinking it was a tasty substitute for Warfarin which is also a cure all good for preventing heart attacks and strokes, treating blood clots and killing rats.

fascinating way of killing rodents.....internal bleeding.......

This reminds me, one day my father got into his car and tried to start it with no luck.

After a while he discovered that "something" had packed his valvecover valley, where the coils are, full of nuts!!
