esprit is a fine car, especially twin turbo. However, the 00 model i drove just didnt seem 'right' with the transmission. I grew up driving farm trucks with transmisssions that had a 'revised' gear pattern where third was left of first and below fifth gears. We could never find second.

The esprit reminded me of the farm days just a little tooo much.

I have never driven an Esprit, but your observation made me laugh (in a good way). As an FYI, in 1998, the clutch was replaced with a new clutch hydraulics system, reducing travel and pedal effort. In addition, the gear-selector mechanism was re-designed and simplified to reduce some of the slop. Apparantly didn't do much!
