eh maybe he's too scared to get into sixth! :p

BTW Can't wait for you to let me drive it again bro!

Oh and nice lip

You can drive again after the sacrafice you made with your body to save the NSX last time. Maybe someday you can take a drive on Kelly Lynn. Oh, you should know better than that boy...never scared to go faster!

Please let us know what you think of the diff's performance.
here's some comments from a new OSG owner courtesy of Dali Racing:

What a different car Mark. I haven't gotten rough with her yet, but I have been driving it and it's amazing coming out of turns. You were so right on that one! Would you like a testimonal for the site?

I have ridden in a NSX with the Comptech 4.55 and it seemed too short, the 4.40 is VERY NICE. It pulls just right. I like the way you can hear the discs clacking around actually

I have MJ putting a new 5sp tranny together for me with short gears and the 1.5 way OSG with 4.44 R&P - can't wait!! :D

That was actually my email to Mark after having Barn do the install :D The R & P is actually a 4.40 final drive. Enjoy your new OS Giken!

Hey John

got my new tranny from Mark last month with JDM short gears and 1.5 way OS Giken LSD & R&P

I tested it out with 12 laps of the Nurburgring full circuit (thats the GP circuit plus Nordschleife joined together in one 25km loop) and I have to say I agree with your comments further up the thread wholeheartedly.

the transformation is unbelievable - it is practically a different car!!

the way it bites into the tarmac (the 275 Kumho Ecsta probably help there  ) on full throttle out of turns is amazing - before I would be managing huge power oversteer with steering & throttle, but now I just hang on to the steering wheel and feel the G-forces as I am launched forward!! - it reminds me of my Skyline but with handling to boot!

I gotta thank you John, as it was this very thread that persuaded me to order the OSG in the first place and I am so glad I did

cheers bud!

Hey Barn Man -- Cheap trick with the Exedy's... remove the discs from the assembly and replace with spacers (we use 20mm spacers with the twin plate clutches). Fasten down the pressure plate with bearing in place, and the fingers on the diaphram spring will open up. You can then slide the bearing up into the fingers. The design is actually made like this so that the bearing is captivated (unlike the factory clutch). This works pretty well, and prevents the bearing from getting scored with a puller.

Later,
-- Chris

Hello all,
These are pics that I took of John McCains tranny job. During the final part of the install of the diff, I did lapse a little with taking pics, but it slipped my mind. I had my mind on the job instead of the pics. Oh well. But you get the idea of what goes on during the install here. It's kinda hard to take pics of everything that goes on. I didn't take pics of the measurments between gears and synchros, but again, you get the idea.

Big thanks to John for letting me work on his baby, it was a strong car before the new diff, ( 4.40 r/p comes with it ).
Just a note for all the guys who install one of these on their car, if you have a sensor for your diff speed, you'll need to space the pick up away from the case a little if the ring gear doesn't have an indention for the pickup like the stock ring gear does. Ask me how I know.
Also, Exedy is working on making their clutch a little more user friendly after my phone call to them. They apparently had no idea that there were two different throw out bearings in NSX's and that the later model flywheel bolts were longer. Now they know.
The throw out bearing fits VERY tight in the pressure plate. You have to actually pull it through the fingers with a bearing puller. Again...ask me how I know.

Thanks for the pics post John,
Thaks for the props Johnny!

Any update on the OS Giken LSD? Any negatives?

Henry.

I LOVE IT! No negatives at all. I will say that it has a slight gear whine, but I like it. Seems to be bullet proof. I have been to the 1/4 Mile Track 3 times, 5 AutoX Events and 3 Track days with it installed. I comes out of corners so much faster and you can really feel it grabbing and pushing! WEll worth the investment.

John

Are there any specific install instructions or is installation similar to any ole' LSD?

Just rec'd mine, can't read Japanese, and would like to say something helpful to my mechanic if and when he looks at me with a dumbfounded gaze.

Hi, I just installed an OS Giken differential but the ECU doesn't like it as it has no drive for the speedometer...
Did anyone of you face this problem?
How did you solve it ?
Thanks

John

On the OS you have to take the small ring gear off of the old diff housing and transfer it over to the OS. If you don't the speedo will not work. The gear isn't terribly hard to get off, just tap around the edges of it gently with a punch and hammer. Go from side to side to make sure it's coming off of the diff evenly. Then place it in an oven and heat it up a bit to expand it and drop it on the housing of the OS. You may have to tap it a bit but it will go on no prob.

Have a great day, Hope all you lucky people at expo are having a great time!
Barney D.

did you have any of the gears cryo'd? If I was doing a full tranny rebuild like that, all my gears and synchros would get a deep cryo treatment :D

Many thanks to Barn Man !
My only issue now is that the gearbox is back in the car ...without the gear to drive the speedometer!
What about installing an AEM ECU ?
Maybe it will work without the speedo input?
Anyone familiar with this option?

Thanks

The only other speed sensors found on the car is from the wheels. However, the pulse is completely different, so I don't think it would be possible to use this. As Barney says, you really need to have the speedo gear installed off your differential. The OS Giken LSD is compatible with the factory gear.

Cheers,

I spelled "treatment" wrong. Check out the site and read up on it. It's a metal treatment that changes the molecular structure of the product, strengthens (without making it brittle), and greatly reduces friction = increased power.

cool sounds like the same benefits as cryo which pretty much does the same thing.

Sort of. Those kind of benefits are all claimed by shot peening, Cryo, WPC and more. But Cryo has some adverse side effects including changing the dimensions of the piece as well as making it more brittle, which WPC does not have as side effects.

Ah I see... I didn't know cryo changed the dimensions... but it makes sense seeing as how its so cold it could shrink a little.
