Orange is the new Black

And all that fuss for colour options, the problem isn't the colour, but the power!

Get more power, less weight ... If Honda offers the option of a rwd NSX without the SH-AWD, sales will skyrocket ...

Funny whenever I hear people complain about HP.

It's in the same league as the 911 Turbo, 570S, more than most of the R8 versions (except the V10+).

And as have already been beaten to death, the NSX is pushing new envelopes. Re-hashing the old NSX would be a huge failure.

Flash back to 20 some year ago .. NSX was "only" 270 HP, 5.5 second 0-60mph, RWD $90K .. while a 911 Turbo was 405HP, 3.8 second 0-60pmh, $100K .. Ferrari was about 380HP, 4.5 second, for $130K ..

I do agree many areas for the new NSX could be slightly better, (cut reasonable 80kg, 20 more hp to break the 600 mark, more colours in/out, Targa etc) however, with app. double the price, with more then double the horse power vs gen 1, add AWD and Hybrid, cut the 0-60mph time to 2.9 sec, (0.3 slower than turbo S, 0.1 slower than 488) while the Turbo S and 488 are also almost double the price compare to 20 year ago now ..

So, new NSX isn't bad compare to the F and P ... in term of value/performance ..

On the other hand, Performance sedans are somewhat "Bargain" now .. the Porsche tuned E500 was over $80K almost 30 year ago, and need 6 second to do 0-60mph (NSX was $70K, Ferrari 348 was 95K) now the E63S is just over $100K now, but added AWD, and can do 0-60mph in just over 3 second .. BARGAIN! @_@

The car sounds like a lawnmower but I don't really want it loud and always drive in quiet mode. An acquaintance and car lover kept telling me how to make it louder yesterday when he was checking the car out and I said if I want it louder I'll just drive the gallardo spyder. I really do like the car being rare. Maybe t-tops will fit inside the trunk area lol

i really want to see the option to change all of the interior silver plastic to carbon fiber. the carbon fiber interior kit should have included that, not just the steering wheel and gauge hood.

stitching on the seats too. i love the diamond quilted seats in the R8.

We offer this full kit (8-pieces total) to be swapped into the car if anyone is interested, PM us for details!

Maclaren has the best color palette in the business.

McLaren and Lambo are both pretty good with colors. BMW Individual isn't that far behind with some crazy color options and most are "only" $5500 extra :)

Orange is a very hot color, also green if done in the right color, and purple has been an up and coming color too!

^ that colour palette is lacking something - yellow or orange spring to mind.

Confirmation that only North America has the "signature Y-Spoke" NSX wheels (the best, and lightest design)

Any actual numbers for sales in Japan?

Interesting. I didn't know they weren't available worldwide. Curious business decision.

Any actual numbers for sales in Japan?

From https://hondacarmedia.com/archives/2192 dated April 24, 2018 (via Google translate):

The maximum number of units sold per month is very small as 8 units, so the owner candidates who submitted at the same time as the reservation reception are in a state of waiting for cargo sequentially.

Currently the period of waiting for deliveries is shortest 8 months longest 3 years, which means inevitably less in terms of simple sales.

Still, the cumulative sales volume in 2017 is about 100 units, and it is a calculation shipping sales upper limit each month.

Although I wonder whether Honda is catching up on the export backlog now that there isn't a high demand from the US market.

Lots of stuff to talk about for 2019. The big one is obviously the new color which is called Thermal Orange and will be a $700 option. They also added a new interior called indigo blue that looks very sharp.

Now let's get into the fun stuff!
  • beak grill is now painted body color
  • grill surround, air intake mesh, and rear bumper outlet mesh are now high gloss finish instead of matte
  • Carbon fiber decklid spoiler is also gloss carbon fiber rather than matte
  • Carbon Fiber Exterior Package is now gloss carbon fiber instead of matte (THEY LISTENED!!!!!)
  • Alcantara headliner is now a part of the $3,800 carbon fiber interior package
  • Red interior is now available in a full leather seat
  • 4-way power seats are now standard
  • Navigation is standard
  • ELS studio audio is standard
  • parking sensors are standard
  • aluminum sport pedals are standard
  • $157,500 is starting MSRP +$ 1,800 destination but you get $4,700 more worth of options as standard for only a $1,500 MSRP jump
  • Red calipers are $700 upgrade on iron rotors
  • CCB brakes can now get orange calipers to match the new paint
  • Continental SportContact 5p tires are replaced with SportContact 6 tires designed specially for the NSX
  • larger front and rear stabilizer bars. Stiffness is increased 26% in the front and 19% in the rear
  • rear toe link bushings are 21% stiffer
  • hub rigidity has increased by 6%
  • Software tweaks to hybrid, MR dampers, Electric power steering systems, and stability control to take advantage of the new hardware
  • car is more playful and understeer and oversteer are more controllable
  • Car lapped Suzuka Curcuit 2 seconds quicker than the 2017/2018 variant

Everything here is good and I for one am very happy. We didn't get everything we asked for but what we did get is important.

Would be nice if current NSX can have the new software updated.....

Good news, this is what they should do at the beginning, $160k isn't a bad price to start, but instead of following super car brand trend, (everything is costly option) make most features standard. (Buyers like Acura, Lexus, as most features are standard in their top models) also exotic colour in and out and brake.... (Orange pearl + orange brake could be $7/8k for a Lambo or Mclaren)

Now, someone can get a flashy 2019 "Bling Bling" Orange Pearl NSX with Orange brake loaded for ~$175k vs $300k for a similar Lambo..

Hope stickier tire and more aggressive software can cut 0.1-0.2 second drag time, and stiffer bars and bushings can improve track performance a bit .....

Exotics Buyers look at numbers and bling bling!

Wait....from the pictures....

Orange with blue leather??? That is wrong ....

And still ill too much reflection from the interior, quite distracting.....

Wow....... The orange with the blue interior would be sharp, and $700 upcharge isn't awful. Crazy that there were no performance upgrades, save for suspension "updates". And for those of you who bitched about the chrome beak part, well you got your wishes to have it gone, but be careful what you wish for.....

I doubt this is enough to save the NSX...... But, if you look back over the years of production of the Gen 1 NSX, they only built/sold an average of 200 per year over the history of the build of the car..... Not sure the Gen 2 is going to make 200 annually at this point going forward.

My car is 130R White and I love it on the car with the red interior, and I think it is very high up there in demand, so I cannot see that they'd have dumped it? I thought the car looked great in silver on red as well...... Never have seen a Casino White car in person, but I hear it looks more silver than white so maybe that is the white that got dropped???

Even with the addition of previous options as standard options now, a car with CCB's and an option or 2 will still be around $175K, pre rebate....... Still don't think that will sell enough cars to keep the program afloat. Time will tell, but Honda will have to really step up their marketing efforts......

Interesting that the carbon fiber engine cover is now embedded in the exterior carbon fiber package that costs $12,600. Absolutely ridiculous IMO...... Looks like my CF engine cover will be rare someday.

I was surprised they didn't upgrade some of the interior plastic pieces that get bitched about.

Kind of sad that they can't get something going with Michelin.

The blue interior addition is welcome, but the shade looks kind of light (i.e. a dark shade of blue would have been better).

Adding the sport pedals as std was a good move.

I didn't want the tacked on CF interior stuff so having to get that to have the alcantara headliner is not a welcome change.

Overall, the did increase the value proposition a bit with increased std features (nav, hifi upgrade, parking sensors, electric seats) and "handling package".

They made some software improvements to the vehicle dynamics. Stiffer front and rear sway bars and toe arms. Different continental tire developed for the car. Apparently all these improvements made it 2 seconds faster around Tsukuba.

What color would someone get the Blue interior with? I can only see it going well with Silver or Black. All the other stuff they made standard isn't going to be enough to bump up sales. Is XMSirius going to standard with the ELS? I still can't believe that my car with a $206.5k MSRP didn't have it as part of he package the dealer ordered. I can stream it, but it's a PITA.

Blue interior only seems to go with the blue exterior paint. I agree that it seems a strategically poor use of funds. I would have thought that offering a variant of a tan interior would have been an obvious decision.
