Onboard Battery Charger for Less

In the past, I have mentioned that I have the Schumacher onboard battery charger installed on my NSX, to keep the battery charged when the car sits idle for long periods, such as in the winter. It's mentioned in the FAQ here.

I have previously referred folks to the Schumacher website here. Someone recently mentioned to me that you can buy this charger for a lower price on Bass-Pro, and it is true. Schumacher charges (pun intended) $36.99 for the charger, whereas it is $29.99 on the Bass-Pro website here.

I have no association with either company, but I figured, maybe I could save seven bucks for a few of us by posting this information.

Ken,

FYI: I purchased the "Schuie" at my Interstate Battery Distributor for $24.95 two years ago after you telling us about it.

Next time I am there I will check the current price.

I also noticed the same Schumacher charger at
Walmart, after I bought mine. It was priced something less that $25, only difference was the packaging.

Ken is your NSX left in an unheated area for the winter?

Yes.

However, I also plug in the charger any time the car is going to sit for more than a week, even when it's not cold in the garage.

Do you have a picture as installed?

No I don't, sorry.

It's strapped alongside the battery (I have the Black Panther BP800, now the Odyssey) on the right side of the battery (on your left if you're standing in front of the car looking at it). I am not using the original black plastic battery box.

sjs - No pics, but I chose to install mine up high. I modified the L bracket that came with the unit, and used the upper bolt on the spare tire bracket to mount it. It just clears the hood, and I can reach it without reaching down behind the spare tire. The extension cord drops down from the ceiling of my garage so no worries about a cord laying across the paint, or trying to fish it up from under the car. I'll be at the winery drive on the 6th if you want to take a look.

Sounds like it might work.

As another idea, someone else here reported installing it with a short extension cord poking through his front air dam, to make it easier to access.
