So here's the situation, about a week ago I shut the car off with the ac running ( something I don't normally do ). The next time I drove my 92' 5 speed I tried to use the ac all I got was a face full of luke warm air and it was set at it's coldest setting. The first thing I did was get on Prime and started searching, and found some similar postings. I first checked the fuses 37 and 38 in the front fuse box and they were good, secondly checking the condensor fans, which were running fine. Thirdly, turning on and off the ac to see if I could here the compressor clicking on and idle changes, and it does... at least it sounds like it's clicking on. Still, nothing but warm air.

Is there anything else I can check before I take it in and get raped from the dealer, or worse, one these Air Condition "specialty" shops. Your expertise is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I agree to stay away from any dealer. Hopefully theres a good reputable shop locally. Hopefully a local member can direct you to one.

You could have a problem with the in-dash climate control unit. I would drop "BrianK" a PM and see what he thinks. He is the man when it comes to climate control in our cars.

you can also check the freon level in the bottle in front of the radiator. There is a sight glass on top of the bottle so you can verify if there is freon and if the compressor is working.

I am interested in the OP seeming to be unsure if the compressor is "clicking." I would confirm for certain that the clutch is engaging and that the compressor is turning before going any further. My 2 cents.

First, check your refrigerant level. Does your car use R-22 freon? I think 1992 NSXes used R-22 unless they have been converted to R-134a. If your car has been converted and takes R-134a you can buy a recharge kit at your local auto parts discounter for about $30, but if it takes R-22 you have to take it to a shop. Jiffy Lube (I know they are idiots, but...) can check and recharge R-22. The last time I used them, I think it was $140 for a R-134a recharge, not sure what the cost would be for R-22.

The last time I recharged my own AC system, I did it myself with a R-134a recharge kit. So easy even I could do it...

^^^^ I know you really mean R12;).

The easiest thing to do is just press on the pressure valve on the drivers side wheel well under the front hood for a brief second. Use a screwdirver tip and keep your hand away. If it has freon, you will know it:). This would be a very basic go/no-go test, not a true pressure test, just to see if there is freon at all. If it is under significant pressure, chances are your freon is fine, and as BrianK mentions the CC board is a little "long in the tooth":).

Your car being a 92 a Climate contol unit unit repair is due but as noted above you need to confirm that the compressor clutch is pulling in and spinning the compressor. Also run the test procedure and see what you get. http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/DIY/climate_control.htm

can't believe it took till the 7th post for someone to recommend doing the self test on the control head.
