Oil filter

There are 2 oem oil filters which fit the nsx. One is short and the other one is somewhat longer. Anybody know if their internal designs are different or the same? Any disadvantages if I use the short one?

There is only one OEM filter for the NSX, part # 15400-PL2-004. It is the longer one - the shorter one you are talking about is probably the one for the Legend. The disadvantage is that the shorter one has less filter surface area.

Lud,

Yes, agree, but is it really a disadvantage? I wonder if the shorter legend oil filter is already sufficient or not? Is there a way to test it? I wouldn't mind wasting a few oem oil filters to do the test. Anyone got any ideas?

Reason behind all this hassle is for installing a oil cooler sandwich adaptor. As you all know, the clearance for the oem nsx oil filter is quite small.

Need help.

Instead of messing around trying to worry about testing oil filters why not simply block off the adapter and relocate the filter to a more suitable spot?

i dont think the shorter one or the longer one will make a difference if u change both oil and filter regularly at close intervals ....i think it would be more of an issue if you were trying to stretch your oil changes. But why risk it, oil is the blood of the engine.

Hi, I don't have an NSX yet, but I'm still looking for one. I never post here, but I have been a religious reader for a few years now. As far as the oil filter, I can't say if the shorter Legend filter is sufficient or not, but when the G2 Legend first came out in 1991, it used the same oil filter (same part #) as the larger NSX filter. In 1992, for some reason Acura decided to make the shorter oil filter (different part #) for the Legend. I personally have owned 3 G2 Legends, currently still own my 93 LS Coupe with 6-Speed manual trans, and many of us Legend owners actually still buy the NSX filters (Original filter on the 91 Legend). Truthfully, I really don't know if the NSX filter is offering me any benefit, as the oil appears to be faily clean looking when changing at 3000K miles, but I personally would stick to the NSX filter. With that said, I look forward to coninue to read and learn from this forums, and hopefull I will join you guys as an NSX owner soon. Being from Hawaii, it isn't easy finding the right NSX as not too many are on the Island and the prices are always a few thousand higher than the mainland. When I'm ready I'll be buying one from the mainland.

Actually I was just reading this article and thought this approach might be really a good way to provide superior engine protection for a NSX.

Particularly for those of us who want to keep the car for a long time.

I was going to reference this article along with my earlier post but I got offended by their use of stylesheets
