"Official" Zanardi Thread...

Spotted #25 today. The owner was having a dilemma -- apparently he had been unknowningly tasked with bringing home two children, when he only had space for one. I offered to trade him my Integra; he graciously declined .

Mileage: 48,940 on 7/17/2009

Little help here please...
in one post on the this thread it is reported that #42 has had accident damage, but in a subsequent post the info for this car has no mention of any issues at all. And the website for the dealer shows a clean carfax. So may question is: has this car been damaged or not? I am really interested in it if its history is good.
Thanks.

I remember viewing the auction condition report, looked kinda ratty. I think Manheim graded it a 1.0:wink:

Just a update on Zanardi No 47. Its alive and well and a garage queen in Severna Park Maryland with about 24K miles on it. No mods and original wheels. If you want more info you can E-mail me at [email protected]. Mike

Was directed to your site by a Zanardi fan, and read with interest the remarks from the posts on #8 -- I purchased the car from Chris Willson (Science of Speed), Tempe, AZ. in February 2006. I have managed Target Chip Ganassi Racing for eighteen years, so quite familiar with Alex Zanardi. I was at Tochigi to see the cars on their line prior to USA introduction, and was at the luncheon & public introduction in Torrance with Zanardi & Vasser with the Honda group. Always wanted one, and finally purchased this one. The frame is straight, the body is mounted square to the chassis, and if there was damage or repair, it’s hard to tell. The car is well-maintained and it’s a great driver – puts a scare into my wife. It’s all original with the exception of Chris’ aftermarket exhaust system (have the original exhaust). It’s used during the better Indy months, and stored on a rack in my garage during the winter. If any of the Prime/NSX enthusiasts visit Indy, happy to give you a tour of the car plus the CGR race facility.

Welcome Chili!

Sounds like an awesome invite!!!

Its getting to be winter time here in NJ, so I'll have some time to play around with Zanardi Registry. Mine still sitting in my garage, bone stock, untouched and tucked away with about 28k miles on it.

Ironically I have a foot of snow here, and have some time to play around with the registry. Email or PM ME any new updates. Thanks

I just spotted #23 driving north on 101 in San Francisco last week. He was in the slow lane being very careful BTW. The car was spotless and had personalized plates reflecting it as 23.

that, i believe, would be Zanardi #49. been for sale for a long time now, on and off.

Ok I wondered what it's number was. I wonder if they paid $50k for it?? Oh well no others for sale right now as that was the only one on the market so I guess it was take it or leave it.

That price seems pretty high considering the miles but then again im not so sure. I see 100k 91-92's selling for mid to upper 20k's. Seems like a deal if the buyer isnt worried about the miles and wants the 3.2/Coupe combo and a Zanardi to boot! 35k seems more in line.

#16 listed 93k miles, $39k ask.

Wow, 1 Owner and they actually drove it. Good for them. It is tempting...

I am adding the Detailed History for future reference.

Today I went to inspect and drive this car. My friend and I were allowed to drive the car together which was nice. Mechanically, the car is sound and appears to have been serviced accordingly. The engine runs smooth, clutch is excellent and the shifter shifts perfectly. Car goes in a straight line on the freeway and doesn't drift. The brake and clutch fluid need to be serviced. The brake pads appear to be okay but the dealer will replace them. ABS works properly. No strange noises from the suspension under tight cornering.

Now to the body. The front nose appears to be rash free so it was repainted once before and the work was done well. There is a scrape on the red paint above the spoiler on the side. A chip on the driver side headlamp cover probably from it making contact wtih the hood. The bolts on the driver side fender had the paint worn away so it may have been removed at one point. The paintwork (if any) appeared to be original but hard to tell. The paintwork overall looks good for a 93K mile car.

Now here's where the problems are:

- Zanardi wheels have severe curb rash (all of them) and gouges on spokes on two of them (these are trashed in my opinion)
- Antenna is not original and an aftermket one and missing the mast (will be replaced with new one)
- Taillights have condensation in them
- No front spare tire
- No air compressor in trunk
- There is an amp mounted in the back so the Zanardi trunk mat can't lay flat down
- Stock CD changer was open and no cartridge inside it
- The passenger side has a subwoofer that blocks most of the passenger side leg room
- Center armrest/cupholder console is broken (screws missing)
- Passenger door has hole cut into upper area for tweeter which is missing (can't fix unless you get a new door panel)
- Driver side has same hole cut out but tweeter is broken and barely staying in (can't fix unless you get a new door panel)
- Driver side window will not go down all the way and protrudes from the door about an inch
- Driver side plate showing VIN has a big dent in it
- Rearview mirror is shot as you can barely see anything with gray areas and two screw head impressions showing through
- Steering wheel is LOOSE and wiggles side to side (advised this as a safety issue as steering bolt is loose)
- The door and center console trim are all bubbled (little on the center console but doors are really bad)
- Windshield has a perfectly circular cut about three inches in diamater and cracks around it (will have to replace windshield)
- Rear hatch glass has a large abrasion mark on the passenger side

This car is a big disappointment. It will need a LOT of work to make it right and will cost a good chunk of cash to make it perfect. This car isn't worth $39K nor $35K. They would not say how much they took the car in for but in this rough condition, I think in the mid to high $20K range. This car was a daily driver and it shows. As much as I want a Zanardi, this is definitly a project car. If you're looking for a Zanardi beater/track car and can get it for under $30K, you may be happy but if you're looking for a perfect Zanardi, this is nowhere close to it. The dealer was going to take the car to Acura down the street (under same ownership) and get a lot of repairs done but I doubt they'll make the car look like a jewel but it's far from it. Be prepared to invest a lot of time and money if you want to make this car right. With 93K miles, it just doesn't seem worth it.

Welcome Chili, you'll make a great addition to the band of NSX brotherhood (& sisterhood ;-) here on Prime.

Out of curiosity, my wife and I decided to stop by yesterday to check out #16 since I've never driven the zanardi. The engine pulled strong but definitely needed lots of cosmetics attention as Vytas has mentioned.
