After all the cleaning and adding some high polish dress up engine bay parts there is still one thing left to finish off the engine bay.Rear shock tower bar. Before we spend the money on a new aftermarket rear shock tower bar Tyler wanted to modified the oem one to see if he can come up with something to make it look better than how it looks now.Just wanted to see what you guys think about it

Looks to me like you've replaced the steel with copper pipe and removed the front cross-member. That would weaken the bar beyond effectiveness. I prefer function over fashion. My$.02.

I have to admit, the engine bay looks pretty damn good. Not so sure about the brace though... I'm a big fan of the STMPO brace.

Yes I replaced the steel with copper and also removed the front cross-member.I know by doing that it will weaking the bar.If I was to TRACK the car I wouldn't of done that and would probably invest in a better aftermarket one.I'm all show no go but if I wanted to go my NSX wouldn't have a problem do that

So u wont be using the engine cover afterward?

I thought about putting the engine cover/T-top holder back on but the engine look so nice and clean I'm gonna keep it off.And if I wanted to take the top off on a sunny day I can always put it in the trunk

Thanks.About the brace Tyler just wanted to make something happen and see how that would work.If anything we was gonna go with the SOS or the STMPO rear shock tower bar.I like the STMPO more than the SOS

Might as well leave it off. :frown: Copper is very weak material and you may experience flexing of the tubing and eventually it might kink in the middle.

You might as well add an engine damper in there while you are at it.

Engine Damper? What actually does that do?And who makes it?

If anyone is looking for a oem spare brace please pm me, I have 2 more of those I can sell very cheap.

Moderator, if you think this post is inappropriate feel free to delete it.

There are several brands available. Search on Engine Damper and you will see at least 3. There are different opinions whether the product actually does anything but dress up the engine bay...thats why I mentioned it.

Here are a couple.

Does this "engine damper" really work?I heard that when driving it kinda help keep the engine feeling smooth and when park it cause the car to vibrate and you can really feel it at a stop.

It help when the car is shifting gears but the down fall is when the car is park or at a stop this "engine damper" will cause the car to feel a vibration from the back in the engine bay and you will feel it from the inside of the car. Is this true???

Is this the home depot racing rear strut bar?

Im sorry but that is so terrible.

I would get the stmpo bar or revert to stock immediately.

You have an nsx.... not a rice prelude.

I don't know about Home Depot racing rear strut bar you talking about but it's could be my new homemade rear shock tower bar

Terrible to you but kinda cool to me

If I wanted the Stmpo Bar I wouldn't have a problem hit up StmpoRaceProducts for one.Revert to the stock one?I don't think so,to me that thing is freaking UGLY

I do have an NSX and it's my NSX

Thanks for stopping by anyway

have u given any thought on the Carbing strut tower bar? stylish and functional.
http://scienceofspeed.com/products/exterior_performance_products/NSX/Okuyama/shock_tower_bar/

i'm sure you like it more of an aesthetic look rather then function, correct?
there's nothing wrong with that, it's your preference. Is there away to polish the stock bar to match all other pieces in the engine bay?

i mean, u get the look and function once again.

it's just a thought.

Yes,I have thought about not just the Carbing but the SOS and the STMPO rear strut tower bar.Just wanted to make something happen and be creative before we spend the money on an aftermarket strut tower bar

I want both look and function.I'm sure there is a way to polish the stock bar to match the other pieces but the thing that really bothers me with the stock bar is the piece that looks like an "X" towards the front upper middle.I'm sure its there for a reason but it is so ugly there.

I get what you are trying to say but like i said the "X" part of the OEM strut bar is a big No No for me :frown:

Thanks for the thought

I see what you were trying to do and understand why.. I think what everyone is referring to is that the idea.. although aesthetically pleasing to you.. is a bad idea. I think bridges would benifit aesthetically from not having gussets at all.. but a bad idea too.

The major concern being overlooked here isn’t whether the RSTB looks good or will it be strong..copper is used in radiators and fluid lines only because copper is a soft metal and far from strong.. it is non-ferrous so the fluid part makes sense.

But the major concern is not the bar.. its the chassis. You have a very nice17 year old car made out aluminum. The chassis is glued and spot welded not seam welded.

As the chassis is stressed.. it becomes weaker... at 17 years... I wouldn’t drive an NSX without the support Honda included. Additional support would be nice... don’t take from it though.

Iwantnsx - the carbing is a 2 point designed for coupes.. not a 3 point included with Targas.

For aesthetics.. Powder coat comes in almost as many colors as paint today. If you want a custom color.. it would just take a lil longer to ship

Good luck

Thank you very much for the reply.Think I will leave the unfinished bar alone and invest in a new aftermarket one now. After reading your post you left here made me realize something. Thanks again..
