Here are some of of my opinions about the photos of this NSX which has received much discussion as of late. This is simply my layman's commentary based on viewing the photos of the car. I have not inspected this car in person, I am not a professional in any car-related business, and I most likely have no freaking idea what I am talking about.

This seems to have a coupe roof, but everything else in the pictures apears to me to be consistent with a 1997 NSX-T except the fixed roof and a couple interior bits that look like they are from an earlier model year. Again, I have no idea what the real deal with this car is.

Picture #1
My opinion: Looks like misaligned lower nose, misaligned hood/headlight.

Picture #2
My opinion: Looks like misaligned hood/headlight, alternate angle.

JH4NA2167VT000020-c-1.jpg

Picture #3
My opinion: Uneven trunk lid alignment, small gap between left rear quarter panel and rear upper bumper cover, misaligned and warped rear valance. And it clearly has an NSX-T engine cover, not a coupe engine cover

Picture #4
My opinion: Looks like discolored fuse box cover, missing weather seals behind headlight buckets, painted headlight buckets (black from the factory), painted radiator brackets (bare metal from the factory), missing rubber hood stoppers. Odd appearance all along the top of the firewall. Missing spare tire and spare tire bracket.
Note: also missing the cap over the right front shock, but that is quite common and not necessarily a sign of a problem, but since it's obvious and it's in the photo I noted it.

Picture #5
My opinion: Misaligned rear valance (it wraps around to the sides as well). Another angle on the NSX-T engine cover (the clamshell cover in which you can store the -T panel) instead of an NSX coupe engine cover.

Picture #6
My opinion: Looks like 1991 or 1992 center console lid missing VTEC emblem (emblem replaced in more recent pictures), a lot of dirt in the stitching on the steering wheel, a lot of dirt behind steering wheel right next to intrument cluster, a lot of dirt between headrest and drivers seat, a lot of dirt between body and weather stripping, discolored carpet, discolored or very dirty trim piece around remote fuel door release but not adjacent trim panel or molding, something that appears whiteish under steering wheel (I checked closely and nothing on my car matches that); could POSSIBLY be consistent with powder residue from an airbag deployment.

Picture #7
My opinion: Looks like discolored spots on roof liner, map light popped out, dark spot on center sun visor.

Thanks for the excellent diagnosis, Lud. It's hard to argue with the evidence. You probably saved some unsuspecting buyer some serious $$$ (if they were smart enough to read NSX Prime!).

Lud....you are Sherlock Holmes...next time I buy a car, I'm sending you pictures first for your analysis...nice job.

Excellent work Lud! One small comment - the matt finish engine brace is probably just dirty - I've washed many of these and they all collect an oily gritty type of residue. I live near Gainseville and if anyone needs this car inspected I'd be happy to help.

Amazing! So what can you tell us about "jjperkins" from Georgia..?

Hm - its up to $43K already w/ 4 days of bidding left. I fear someone is gonna get stuck w/ one hell of a frankenmobile here.

Harrier - do you plan to show the winning bidder all of Lud's arrows before they plunk down their cash?

Lud,

I have a question for you. How did you get such an amazing knowledge in examing NSX (or for any cars)? Does it take some time to be an expert like you

?

Could you spot them right away or did you have to look really hard?

I am truly impressed once again.

This post should be added to the FAQ's. There is no doubt in MY mind that this car has been rebuilt. The car has every sign of a rebuild. Next time someone posts "so I am thinking of rebuilding a wrecked NSX", show them these pictures. Eighty percent of rebuilt cars are completed in this manner or worse. I am more inclined to believe that this car was two cars at one point in its life, or it has had the vin changed because it had an export only title.

Well done Lud! I'm surprised they even supplied a photo like the one of the interior ceiling, but perhaps they put everything in the pics as a way to defray liability. Of course, most of them would go unnoticed by 99.99% of potential bidders.

Is it just the angle or does the rear show positive camber? And is the right wheel further forward in the wheel well than it should be?

Be careful what you say, he's threatening to sue people....Odd that he would do that rather than address the issues raised...It's like he's got something to hide or something!

HE should sue that person.

That made me laugh....good one

man... harrier has got to be pissed at the world right now.... not only did he buy something that he probably wished he didn't but now he's got the entire board trying to educate the world. But in all honesty I am really glad to see Lud doing this sort of thing because this is exactly the sort of support I want on my side when I find my NSX.
Thanks Lud for looking out for the rest of us!

I, for one, am very impressed with this "detective" work.

I thought for sure the chassis brace was wrong for a coupe but Lud buried that theory. At least for that model year.

The rest of the info is quite slick. And all from crummy pictures.

Since there have been threats of lawyers, I would like to point out again that I am NOT an expert, I am a layman and simply posting my opinion on what I think I see. I could easily be wrong, the pictures could have artifacts or distortion that I am misreading etc.

I should also mention that I think I see Elvis and/or aliens and/or the Loch Ness Monster and/or Waldo in almost every picture and I ate a lot of paint chips as a kid, so take my observations as nothing more than that.

Your right LUD. When it comes to NSX's you don't know what your talking about. This car has CREAMPUFF written all over it.
