O2 headlights...55w aftermarket ballasts

In the process of dong an 02 front end update and wondering.... am I safe using aftermarket 55w ballasts for the HID's or should I go with 35w units?
Will the heat from the 55w ballasts damage the headlight housing?...thanks in advance.

Are you planning on mounting the ballast at the bottom of the headlights (the OEM location)?

No, just concerned the higher output from the 55w unit could cause the bulb heat to damage the plastic lens.
