NSXPO/Shifter Karts

When the NSXPO Nationals were held at Laguna Seca a few years back, a karting company showed up and set up a track on the infield and were letting people drive their shifter karts. Does anybody know the name/location of that company? I had guests with me that day and didn't get a chance to drive one or get their info. Otherwise, does anyone know a place where one could rent/drive a shifter kart? I have tried the karts in Burlingame and, although fun, they are just too slow.
 
For 2008 we plan on using Pat's Acres. They have the best rental karts around, a fantastic track and first rate service. I will have some other kart options available, maybe Rotax karts, maybe some shifters for demo purposes. We will see...

Mike, my memory's a little foggy because I didn't live down here when I attended the 99 event, but I'm thinking it was Emmick or one of their Sacramento area competitors. Are you sure they were shifter karts? I don't recall that.

But either way, if you're willing to come up to Prarie City just east of Sac, or hook up with Terry Ives at a Davis track, I'd be willing to bet you could get into a shifter kart for a day and wear yourself out. :cool: PM me if you want contacts in the Central CA karting club scene.
 
Shifters are a lot of fun .I use to race them .that hobby can get really pricey fast.I would go to a local track event and talk to some people.alot of times they have a show and race day for public.p.s. Drive your NSX cant hurt.
 
I think I was a bit confused. When the karting company first set up the track, one of the instructors got into a shifter kart and was screaming around the track. I was amazed at how fast this guy was going! Well, I assumed that all of the karts were shifter karts, although now I do not believe that this was the case.
I have realized from my recent karting experience that I do need lots of work - but not on my driving. I got out there on a track and was passing everyone in sight, thinking I was Michael Schumacher.... for about seven laps - then had to slow down and let everybody pass me. Why? Because I was so exhausted that I couldn't even breathe! (ha ha ha). I was huffing and puffing and had to stop. After a lap of putt-putting, I cranked it up again and only lasted another three laps.
I think I need to put away my driving shoes and put on my running shoes!

I have not tried shifter karts, but have tried go karts in Fremont and Santa Clara. What's the diference betweent the two? I am asuming the shifter karts have manual transmission and go karts are automatic. I noticed after 20 minutes of go karting, my arms begin to get tired, and my reactions are slower. I get a workout from just 2o minutes of pure karting with fellow kart racers. Boy, it was fun. Mmmmmm, I think I may take my oldest son karting tomorrow.:biggrin:

Mike, you should consider organizing an NSX outdoor karting day; you should be able to snag most of the usual track day junkies; probably enough to get yourself a free ride for the organizing effort. I'd join an outdoor track event; I've had enough of the indoor stuff. Now that I think about it, I've got a Monday nite indoor group that would probably join up in a heartbeat.

If you do think about pursuing the idea, let me give you some contacts to help you get the best deal.
