NSX vs. 2005 Porsche 997 cpe

I just watched the Best Motoring DVD where they reviewed the 997 Carrera and the S pack against the 996 TT, F360, NSX-R and a 350Z. The S basically topped all the tests braking 150KPH-0, 1/4 mile (except the TT) and the NSX-R came last in braking by a big margin and the 1/4 mile only beat the 350Z but it came first on track cornering and only got beat in the 5 lap race by the S cos Gan San was blocking the R and it started last. Basically the NSX on paper was the weakest and in the individual tests but the sum of its parts was a different story. I know the R and the normal is different but... the std carrera was close to the back but the S is wow!

I am surprised the NSX-R did so poor in so many categories??? I would think it should be near the front of the pack at least for braking!

the driver was Takuya .. Gan san's son.
the NSX got outbraked 150-0 but it outbraked as usual all the cars on the track like Doug Hayashi describes "drop the anchors".

Hey NSXBOX..... I saw that video as well!

Now I know why HONDA has not brought out a new NSX.... The current NSX is still better than ALL its competitors because they made it right the first time!!!

Every NSX owner should get that DVD.... It dispells a lot of myths about the NSX been "very underpowered" and "outdated" etc...

I hemmed and hawed re: this same issue.

the NSX is a great emotional car...albeit slow.
The 996 is thoroughly well engineered car, that is a tad faster, but has a much more *brawny* motor.

Different driving experiences - both great - drive and find out.

I had settled on an 02 nsx and figured ~$60k is right.

However, my interest piqued by the big 2 yr depreciation on pcars (new model 997), i started shopping turbos. The stock nsx is nice, but not that fast. I researched ways to make it faster. The answr FI!! As we all know, this will cost ~$10 to do decent.

Imagine my glee when I started finding 01 996TT for $75K.

This is a bonfide supercar and THE supercar value right now. 420HP stock. Throw $2K in mods at it and you're easily iin the 490HP range.

Then you have that scrumptious full leather interior.

My car is lapis blue on savannah beige. Simply beatiful, deviating carpet...

.8 bar at 3k. The AWD system has inherent understeer, but the car will readily oversteer - then the front ratio drops to 5% unless the rear loses traction. Simply Stupendous handling.

theres a great best motoring dvd out there. Watch as the !king with hot tires after a full day of testing *still* bests the Nismo R34 (r450?) w/ 450HP

but for sure, you see less nsxs than 996 (just not turbos).

Qirex,
Congrats on getting the turbo. What year and primary options? The lapis blue is a nice color. I almost bought a midnight blue X50 before I bought my basalt black turbo. To this this day, I still miss my turbo. Unfortunately, I lost interest and gave up too soon and should have started modifying it more. I will probably get an X50 car in a year or so. However, I am keeping my eye on the 997 GT3 development. Enjoy your turbo, it truly is a wonderful car. Darn, I miss having a quick car. :frown:

its an 01 turbo w/ 26k miles and porsche certified to 100k miles.

Basically my car has Full leather, but then goes on w/ full leather consoles, vents radio surrounds...everything. Not one piece of plasticin the interior.

The handbrake/shifter are alum/wood.

I'll prolly do a GIAC stage II (k&n, exhaust, ecu tune) Its good for 90Hp.
If i get tired with that, then new turbos/intercoolers are next.

Honestly, the car is so insanely fast, but better yet, its soooo stable and handles without any deviation from its rails. The one thing i do miss are my 350Z's tailout shennaigans. Ah well, thats what a boxster/coupe i sfor no?

I still love the NSX, but i realized that I had to have power and a killer interior to be happy.

check out my "Wound up not getting an nsx" post...

Honestly, if you believe any of that crap... buy the Porsche.

I love P cars and there's no arguing that a 997 has more "current" technology than a 2005 NSX. If that's what gets you going... buy the Porsche.

But if you want reliable, comfortable, time proven machinery that is every bit as exciting to drive and far less rare (esp. here in S. CA) buy the Acura.

I honestly think you can't go wrong either way but whoever fed you the crap you listed is smokin' dope.

NEW OWNER: NSX vs. 2005 Porsche 997 cpe

As the original poster of the NSX vs. 2005 Porsche 997 cpe. question, I answered my own dumb A _ S question. On Friday....I did what my heart told me to and brought home a new 2005 NSX.

For anyone thinking of buying one new or used her is my torrid history of cars I have owned or driven for 6 months or more. If you are wondering if I am commitment phobic the or plain crazy the answer is NO. I had a partner who owned car dealerships and gave me demos to drive as part of my compensation for doing his advertising and marketing.

1972 240 Z
1991 Toyota MR2
1992 Porsche 928
1993 Alfa Romeo Spider
1993 Porsche 911 coup and cab
1994 Audi (Don't remember Model)
1995 Saab (Don't remember Model)
2001 Porsche Boxster
2002 Mercedes CLK
2002 Mercedes SLK
2002 Lexus SC430

Ok the car I enjoyed the most, maybe because I was young, was my 240Z with webbers. The car that blows them all away as far as pure driving pleasure...the NSX.

I want to thank everyone on this site for all of their wonderful posts. I read through all of the passion and excitement in these forums and came to my senses and last week when I made by decision. For me it was all about passion and emotion...and no I was not wearing pink panties when I thought about my purchase. I simply drove a few new cars and realized they did nothing for me...that simple. When they pulled my NSX out for me at delivery (FANTASTIC DEALER IN TEXAS BY THE WAY) I said to myself "I can't believe I am actually getting this car." Had it been a Porsche my response would have only been "Wow cool car, can’t wait for that first payment" Don't get me wrong the Porsche is a fine car, I have owned several, but it was simply time to get a car that I could be one with, the NSX fits like a glove!

The true test was my wife who is numb to my car fetish. She went wild over the NSX and actually could care less about the missing vanity mirrors; I never thought I would see the day. Too bad it's a 6-spd. as she can't shift...not.

P.S. I am addicted to this web site, is there a rehab class I can go to?

Congrats on the new NSX! I agree with you that sports cars are emotional not logical purchases thus there is no right or wrong. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Congratulations!

There is only one thing more fun than driving home in your new NSX. That is, driving it to this event. Hope to see you there!

P.S. I don't know which dealer you bought your car from, but you should be aware that Goodson Acura services more NSXs than any other dealer in the state, and they do a terrific job...

Congratulations!

Congrat's. Keep the shiny side up, break that new baby in right, and enjoy it.

Is there a break in period? The dealer claims there isn't.

According to my manual, you should keep it below 5k RPM for the first 600 miles and avoid hard braking for the first 200-300 miles. It has also been suggested to vary your speed and gears when cruising on the Freeway during the break-in period.

Actually I did.
You'd better talk to Susan about that. (Susan Tableman coordinates a lot of the work in the service department - I'm not sure of her title, but she's great, very knowledgeable and helpful - and posts here from time to time under the username NSX Service Girl.)

You know susan is gone from goodson now right?

Congrats on the NSX! I hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

The 600 mile break in should be over by the weekend.

I wonder how that 100k mile warranty will hold up with those mods?
