NSX track project help required

I have not seen this mentioned as yet but Carrol Smith has written a host of books dedicated to the racer at all levels from, "Prepare to Win" to "Engineer to Win" that will help you with a lot of your decision making processes to create a dedicated race car or a track car. These books have been the bible for many a racer and I own everyone of his books and they are dogeared from use. I run a Formula Atlantic car here in the Pacific Northwest and these books have helped me along with great engine builders. I have never have a catastrophic engine failure in 18 years due to a poorly engineered support system oil, hydraulics and water. The principles will help you discern and cultivate the answers you need along with the practicle knowledge you will gain from the folks here. Find your self if you do not already have one, a racing engine guru that will listen to your questions and answer them truthfully without thinking you are a pain in the butt. This is essential to your success as the care and feeding of your engine your chassis and you the driver is critical to your success. Good luck and keep the shiny side up! P.S. yes my avatar is my race car a 1990 carbon fiber chassied Reynard Atlantic.

+1 on Carroll Smith books.

Moton 3-ways are widely used in Grand Am Koni and Rolex. They are great dampers that have a ton of adjustability, but for a price. For a similar price, KW should have options out for the NSX soon in a 3-way adjustable damper that they say is superior to Moton.

I've driven on many of KW's Variant 3's and Club Sports which are 2-way adjustable dampers that they proud themselves as just as good if not better than Moton/JRZ/Penske while not costing as much -this is going to be one of the best options out there for the NSX. They are at the moment testing the V3 around Nurburgring to beat the NSX-R's laptime proving their suspension is superior to the famed NSX-R suspension.

The Factor X Unlimited NSX, arguably one of the fastest road-race NSXs ever built, is now sponsored by KW and working with them closely with the 3-way race damper as well as the V3.

If you have an HKS tuner at hand, I would recommend the V-Pro. Often the inconvenience of not having a certified HKS tuner close by, or the added cost is many reasons why you don't see more of them, but if you have those resources, go F-con.

Brembo is always fantastic. Even their simple off the shelf 'lotus' caliper is amazing for FI applications. But if you're going 500whp road racing, I might try to find a F50 Brembo or monoblock.

You should be fine with 500whp road racing in terms of tranny, many shops are doing it.

i have also read through all the caroll smith books

prepare to win
tune to win
engineer to win
drive to win
"screw to win" the nuts and bolts book

and they are excellent, and i highly recommend them...but some debate whether or not some of his facts are reliable...but they are definitely very readable and understandable.

race car vehicle dynamics is also a very good book, but very dense.

Well after a good while on the shelf, time, money and my business is allowing me to revisit the racecar project.

One question I have is regarding the age and model of car to start with.

I've heard some mention that I'm better to go for 3.2 litre car, however I've also heard that the electric power assistance isn't ideal compared to the older models.........

So...... are the above statements valid ? If so then is it best to purchase a 3.2 litre car and replace the steering setup or buy an older car and then rebuild the motor with something bigger ?

Plan is to supercharge the car in the long term, however the plan is to build the car gradually which may mean running the factory engine till it dies, or just until I'm happy with the rest of the development, I don't want to overpower the car before getting the suspension and brakes right.

As always, all comments are much appreciated.

Off-topic, but the Civic Type R EP3 / NSX combo is nice !

Drive line

3.lighter clutch, Tilton carbon/carbon is the best out there, drops 26 lb. from the drive line, releases tons of power to the rear wheels!

Dave:
do you know where/who i can order this from? Last I cked, Tilton no longer make it for the NSX...is it true? The next choice is the Exedy triple carbon I think.

I just sent a fax off to see if there is anything at Tilton, will take a day or so for them to get back to me.

Will let you know.
