So interestingly, this one is R1000, does it mean it's the first one made that Honda is keeping?
A little bit of additional information based on the pictures I have.
As we saw, the format (for NA2) at least, is:
R****
*******
I'm not sure what the 1st line is, but it might be the Type-R production number.
The 2nd line is the chassis/frame number of the car, which on the underhood VIN plate would read NA2-*******.
On one of the very last production NSX-Rs (the pictures that I have), the numbers were:
R11**
20000**
Based on these, and the above, however, I'm not sure exactly how they decode. I'm sure somewhere in the chassis number, you can decode the year of the car. I originally thought it was the Japanese year system, but on the above example, Year 20 would be 2009, so that doesn't make sense either. It's not the year of production since the beginning either, as 20 would be 2010. It could be that the number is non-sequential, and just follows some Japanese convention, that 20 simply equals 2005, and 2006 could be something totally different. As for the 1st line, I thought it was the NSX-R production number, but I doubt they've made over 1100 NSX-Rs, but at the same time, they must have made more than 200.
If anyone has any clues how to decode it, feel free to comment.
