With all the NSX-R mods and some heavy conversions around, i was wondering what VIN real NSX-R have. Also, if any of you changes the door sill plate for the NSX-R version, would you also change the vin stamped on the original ??

It's all fine and dandy to do a NSX-R conversion but to change the vin # to match a real one would be plain stupid.Spend all that time and money to do the conversion, just to end up not driving it because you are sitting in a prison cell for ringing a car

Didn't know it was illegal, anyway not saying all the VIN stamped around the car, just the sill plate.

I just looked at SoS NSX-R sill plate and there is an R just before all the other letters and numbers, i suppose also the engine code NA1 / NA2 should be different, also the interior trim code.

Also search in the FAQ, nothing mentioned about the NSX-R VIN.

Digging up an old thread but what is suppose to be on line 2 of the NSX-R vin plate?

I take it the first line has the year of the car, then the "R", then the Vin number, but what goes on the second line?

I know it's not suppose to be "Mother Goose"

It may be the place for the builder of the motor or maybe the owner name

HEY, THAT'S MY!!!

The reason I used mother goose is because the NSX-R is called the Mother Goose. The top is my VIN, and the MOTHER GOOSE was seen engraved on the NSX-R Floor mat emblem for their advertisement. It represents "Mother of all Hondas."

I always assumed that "Mother Goose" represented the nick-name of the buyer of a set of a NSX-R floor-mats. He was an European NSX-owner/enthusiast who had purchased some very expensive parts from Dali Racing. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago.

I thought the NSX-R floor-mats in the picture were his...

The emblem can be order with any engraving customer want, up to 15 characters.

I'm fully aware of that sad story involve MJ and Mr. MOTHER GOOSE, there was a whole thread about the incident. I don't think any old Primers missed that story. In fact, Procar mentioned to me that the floor mat was not purchased from Dali, but rather from Honda in Japan; it was transfered to Dali when he found out the floor mat didn't fit his car.

However, there was another picture I have seen from a Japanese NSX owner's site that had the same engraving on it.

I ask Nishimura San (POPDESIGN!) back in July when I was helping him sell some floor mats and I didn't know what to engrave on to my emblems because I didn't want people to step on my name, so I ask him for recommendation; coincidentally, he recommended few names and "MOTHER GOOSE" was one of them. It clicked in my head because of the old pictures I saw and I like that idea. So I choose AYRTON SENNA on the driver side, and MOTHER GOOSE on the passenger side.

I don't think The Prime user Mother Goose had any dealings with Nishimura San.

Anyway, I like the story and idea so I ordered my set with that.

FYI
The Top line is for the NSX-R production number, and the bottom is used for the regular VIN#.

So, instead of having your own name being stepped on, you chose Ayrton Senna's name to be stepped on! :D

Regarding the "Mother Goose" mystery, I'm gonna look into it as well... I'm quite intrigued!

Does anyone have pics of a real NSX-R's VIN? :frown:

I do have one, but I generally don't post full VINs on the internet. Too much potential for misuse. In any case, what do you need to know about it?

They are short like NA1- XXXXXXX, hope that helps.

Thanks AR, i'm sure you really know  , but just without JH4 or maybe starting from MTxxxxxx ??

so... there is no "R" anywhere in the VIN ??

on the door sill plated i see a pre-stamped R, is this just on the sill plate or in everyother place the VIN is marked ??

thanks

AFAIK It is only on the sills at least on the NA1 NSX-R as for the VIN the NA2 NSX-R follows the same.

Cheers,

AR

So under the "NA1- XXXXXXX" where is the pre-stamped "R"?

Also, out of the 7 spaces, which ones are letters and which are numbers?

That's the sequence for the normal JDM NSXs. The Rs are a dual line sequence. I'll look at the picture if someone can send me a PM to remind me to do it tonight.

I did own a real R for a year and can tell you that that is the format.

NA2 is definitely the 2-line format, which is the picture that I have (and personally took).

On the sill next to the R is the build number ( xxx ) is that what you mean?

As far as the chassis number is just like the one I posted.

Here is the one from my last car:

As you wish.

So interestingly, this one is R1000, does it mean it's the first one made that Honda is keeping?

Thank you AR99NSX and Vancehu, that's exactly what I was looking for.

So the bottom line is the regular VIN # for the car, and the top line is for the ____ out of ____ NSX-Rs produced.

AR - is yours a three or four digit serial number after the "R"? Vancehu has four numbers after his "R" (1000). Are all the placeholders numbers or are their any letters in a real NSXR serial number? I can't tell by your photo, but it looks to be either a 123 or a T23...

Thanks again!

Hi mate there is only numbers, no letters and yes the top line is the car's number in production and in mine was 0XXX.

Cheers,
