So I will be attending the Detroit Auto Show / North American International Auto Show again this year for the press days (just like last year when I brought you 'first look' pictures from the front row of the NSX Concept car), and the buzz is that Acura is supposed to have a 'production version' that they will be unveiling there. Since just 12 short months ago was the concept car reveal, my questions to the forum members are:

1.) How much 'production worthy' and accurate product do you expect to see from this NSX?

2.) Do you think it will really show up?

3.) What changes (if any) are you expecting to see from the concept car?

4.) How interested are you in the new NSX in light of all of the other supercar competition that is out now, and is supposed to be out in the next 12 months?

I, for one, and hugely excited! But I guess being on my 3rd NSX and having had an NSX in my garage (in one color or another) for the past 18 + years makes me an 'NSX addict'....plus, having a spot on the waiting list for over a year at my Acura dealer has me a bit excited too. :)

How do you know this? Hopefully this one will have an interior!

Through a friend on the inside at Honda. :)

Also, if the engine power specs and such that I have are correct (they are off of the dyno, not just guess work) then this should be a pretty wicked car.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!

Awesome!!!!!!!!!

Yep! I was really excited when I got the information a few months ago. I really hope that it is accurate.

The power figures were leaps and bounds over our cars, but not ridiculously high brute force numbers. Either way, they were saying that this car is squarely aimed at knocking the snot out of the car currently populating the segment where the GT-R, 458 Italia, and other similar caliber performance cars hold court.

I thought HotHonda posted in another forum that a "pre-production" version was being show at the Las Vegas dealer's convention. It apparently had an interior. He made some comment that it was CF laden.
Personally, I'm excited to see what they present. My guess is that what you will see will indeed be very close to the production vehicle.

That's strange... when I posted this a couple months ago the source for the article I quoted, corrected themselves saying Honda was not going to reveal the "production version" in Detroit this year. Maybe they are ahead of schedule after these 3 months and now can show the near production version.

Meeyatch1,

That's good to hear though about their performance goals. My only hope is that they learn from their past mistake and update the car every 3 years or so. Follow the same model as other car makers. They are constantly brining out new versions and updating the style after a couple of years. Good way to keep people interested.

Funny thing is I'm planning on going to the New England International Auto show next Sunday hoping to see the NSX concept there.... my guess is it won't be there after hearing this news :\.

I guess we will all see next week. I just know that when my buddy at Honda told me the specs they had already achieved and said they planned to have a production version of the car at the show in January 2013, I got excited. So I really hope that they did not encounter any delays, and that the car makes it there since that is the only car there that I really care about. :)

Raven, the NE car show is a joke.... you really think Honda NA would show the new NSX there? we are lucky we get to see the new Chevy Cobalt. LOL

It's not too bad Turbo2Go. When I went last year they had a couple of nice exotics there. I was hoping since their concept car has been shown everywhere else in this country they might eventually show it here.

what exotic did you see? The tall brunette at the Toyota booth? That doesn't count... LOL

1.) I imagine it will be around 80-85% complete given that the final components of any project can be the ones that end up consuming vast amounts of time.

2.) Probably

3.) Few if any.

4.) Not terribly interested. I am a lower budget consumer (probably max out at $60k for a "toy"), so I am not really their target audience. In my price range, I would pick up a wide range of other vehicles long before considering the new NSX.

I will admit that I am also skeptical of how this car will turn out compared to the original - I don't know that it will ever hold a similar place in history. Then again, Nissan showed the world that you can still change the supercar game when they produced the new GTR, so maybe Honda can do the same.

I know of someone who has looked at the production version and he said the car is stunning. He owns a R8 and said he would sell his car in a minute to get the new NSX. According to his comments the car looks identical to the concept.

Turbo2Go,

Last year they had a couple of Lamborghinis (including an aventador), Lexus LFA, a couple of Austin Martins. But your right they don't really have much...

blue_myriddn,

I'm in the same boat you are I won't be able to purchase it but heck I wasn't able to purchase my current NSX until just 2011 and it was 20 years old at the time. If this new NSX wins me over maybe in the year 2025 or something I can afford a used one then. :D

Did he say if it looked close to the concept that has been shown?

Yeah OK, I guess last year wasn't all that bad. It's been really bad before though.

I wonder if the production model will have those LED headlamps?

Yes, the new RLX has them on the production version.

I hope it will have more of a HSC style interior clean and simple just like to original,
Not a fan of the Ferrari or the Audi ones.

You guys are lucky. The Baltimore show sucks. Although last year, they did have a nice Toyota Cressida on display.

Mitch

We're in the same boat. I've had my 91 NSX since new and also have a deposit on a new one at the Acura dealer.

With the launch of the new Corvette, I would hope Honda doesn't try to go up against that with a final version at this show.
Perhaps better to show an updated version with an interior, an engine bay, an open hood, a new colour etc.

It would seem to make sense for to show the " production version NSX " in a big launch at the 2014 show.

However Honda's marketing has never seemed to be all that well thought out so we'll soon see what their strategy is.

Not true. They have the best guys there. When they don't perform up to snuff they send them immediately to.... the design department.

How are you guys on lists? My local dealership isn't forming a list but they took down my info and said they will keep me updated. Does being an existing NSX owner help--I figure it should help you get near the top, no?

Meeyatch, does your friend on the inside know if there will be a true manual option? I think I'm afraid I already know the answer but it's worth asking again to somebody connected.
