NSX Lovefest on M3Forum

I wouldnt exactly call it a love fest
90% of the posts are by mr. Wolfe and one other member one that site.
I am a member of m3forum.net and I have a few post on that thread but to call that thread a love fest is a bit of a stretch since most post are by the same two people lol

Zaid

You're missing the point. It's a thread on M3F OT that people aren't trolling at all. I see a lot of people give this car shit (the worst on Honda-tech actually) so its refreshing not to see the same at M3F

Yes, there may be about 6 of us that have contributed 1/2 of the posts, but everything is on a positive note. I would guess that 30-40 different members have posted in that thread with almost zero negativity. That may be a record in the OT over there.

Exactly, which is why I mentioned it. I've seen many NSX threads crawling with haters on M3F. It's usually based on ignorance/brand-blinding loyalty.

THAT is odd. It's like Fiat owner's trashing Ferrari owners...it has to be jealousy, not hate.

This. I've been on M3Forum since 2004 and you'd be surprised how many people hate on anything JDM. I put Teins & Volks on my car (2005) and at the time, I got tremendous hate for it. Now everyone rocks Volks & they are drooled over.

I appreciate BMWs (and M3s specifically) for what they are...or at least how I perceive them.

They are extremely well-engineered, balanced, very powerful, practical, generic, dull and boring cars.

+1

Here in Dallas, they're "belly-button cars"...EVERYONE has one! :D

Maybe boring looking but the M3 is a absolute blast to drive

I have a feeling some have not driven M3's. Boring is not the right word unless you are driving it in a boring fashion. I mean, I have seen professional drivers test drive stock M3's and are giddy afterwords.

Mr. Wolfe

E46 M3 is fun to drive. One of the best all-around cars ever.

Agreed, the e46M is an awesome mix of luxury, sport and practicality. To be honest I don't think it can be beat in my eyes.

I'm biased as I have had two though.

all these positive comments about m3's are making me feel pretty good about my decision to buy the 2008 e90 i'm looking at if the ppi checks out.

On the contrary...I see your point but you missed my point..it's not "people" it's only 2-3 individuals that have made a 30 page thread by repeatedly posting to make it seem like its a lot of people.

"Boring looking" is indeed the key phrase.

Yes, I'm sure it is fun to drive. I'm not even trying to rag on the car for that. There is no questioning the speed...but speed isn't everything (at least to me).

I just think that M3s cost a lot of money for a bland, manila envelope, yawn-fest of a car. My personal opinion is that if I wanted an unadventurous looking car, I'd buy a Honda Civic. If I'm looking to buy a sports car, it should be exciting to drive AND look at. BMWs do not deliver on both ends. They look like everyday, run-of-the-mill, automobiles.

NSXs stop people in their tracks because they know instantly they are looking at something special. Ferraris, Lamorghinis, Paganis, Ford GTs, get the same reaction for their aesthetic beauty. However, a 1,000 pedestrians could walk by an M3 and not bat a lash.

Bottom line: to me, cars should be exciting to drive and look at.

/end diatribe.

BS!!!

I get as many people gawking over my 24year old
E30 M3 as I do with the nsx..I have had multiple encounters with people taking their cell phones out at the gas station taping the car front to back.
Your opinion is obviously your opinion but to say they aren't a looker is far from the truth!!!

anyone can tell the M3 is something special. not just a regular 3 series. muscular fenders, hood hump, lower ride height.

Agreed. Son of Liberty reminds me of my wife. If the styling isn't significantly different from another car on the road, she can't tell a difference. I can notice an M3, or any performance car to be honest, on a 6 lane highway at 70 mph when the car is coming from the opposite direction. I am not even looking for it, my eye just automatically gets pulled over to the car. I have never in my life mistaked a normal 3 series for an M3 of any generation. (except maybe e36)

Bottom line IMO, a car enthusiast notices an M3 as something special while some people, who can afford and choose to drive a nice car, but are not an enthusiast, cannot pick up the difference.

I did not buy an M3 to impress anyone. I bought it for the performance and practicality. Not to mention that I have owned my M3 for many, many years and still find myself looking for excuses to go out in the garage and catch a glance of it.

Mr. Wolfe

I get compliments on my 01 M3 all the time. Looks are subjective, but I think if you have it in certain colors like Laguna Seca Blue, the car looks amazing. I think it looks timeless like the NSX, but again looks is just opinion. It's not exotic looking like Lambos and Zondas; to the poster who made that comment--it's not in that price range either.

Personally speaking, my vote towards the "boring" category only refers to BMW looks...it's a "car shaped car"...a four year old could draw it's basic shape. :D

I am attracted to, and have to have, mid-engined, low, wide, and "swoopy" looks in my cars. Otherwise, it falls towards being heaped into the "cookie-cutter" shape of every other car...boring.

Give me a BMW M1 from the '80's!

One is a sexy BMW...the other could almost be confused as a Toyota/Lexus...not trashing on M3 or hating...just not my style preference...

A car's looks HAVE to make me grin and give me serious 'look-back syndrome" when I exit the car and walk away from it.

...nor in their performance category either. :D

Agreed, the BMW is a sport sedan. The best performance car if your life needs dictate that a sedan be in your garage. Fun & fast, but still doesn't quite provide all the "woody" appeal of bedroom poster exotics.

Don't get me wrong, I'd have one if I needed a sedan...but I don't.

Where's the love for the BMWs?

I've owned and E30M3 (wish I kept it! ) and I'd get stopped all the time by folks interested in the car. Heck, I'd have people giving me their cards and saying "if you want to sell it, call me." Great fun car, but not practical for everyday driving (at least for me)

I currently own an E36M3. More refined than the E30M3, not as "raw." But this is to be expected with each generation passing of cars (Who wants to bet that the next nsx will get complaints that it's not a driver's car, too many gadgets, etc?) I don't daily drive this either as it's a manual and my commute sucks! Doesn't have the "look at me" looks of the E30M3 or the NSX.

Now I'm looking for an NSX for a weekend/fun car. This would replace the E36M3.

Having said all that, I think the E36M3 would be the most practical "all in one" car if I had to choose. Fast, great handling, and great everyday car. (and a strong DIY community so fixes are relatively cheap)

At the end of the day, we're all car guys/gals. Different cars have different purposes. We can all appreciate different types of cars.

If I had the garage space (not counting our daily drivers), I'd have:
-E36M3, keep this thing for the track!
-NSX for weekend fun
-993S for weekend fun

With those, I'd think I'd be a happy man (car wise) when the world ends in 2012!:tongue:

Note: I buy the cars because I like the looks, and the way it drives. I do not buy cars to say "look at me" as I like to think of myself as a low key kind of guy.
