NSX Lamborghini door style kit?

If you wish to mod, or even butcher, your car, cool. Go for it. It's your car. I have nothing against you modifying your car. The issue isn't OEM specifics and resale value. The issue is one of engineering and design and whether or not this is practical and feasible.

What I do believe, however, is that you're not going to be able to implement a scissor-door design that would be at the same level of quality as the NSX has without spending gobs of money.

For example, just look at the cut lines of a NSX door. The curvature of the leading edge would preclude the door from simply pivoting straight up. I suppose someone could design a linkage where the door first moved out a few inches and then moved upward, but that would be very complex. Or, I suppose you could alter the shape of the doors and fenders but that's pretty radical too.

Not to mention latches, gasket seals (as mentioned earlier), etc. But what if you were willing to alter the shape of the doors and fenders? Could you do it? Is it doable? Sure, if you wanted to spend the money, anything is possible. To do the engineering, prototypes, etc, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost $25K to do correctly.

I don't think there's too many people willing to spend that kind of money however. I don't think it's possible to pick up a $1,500 bolt on kit that would look or function properly.

PS: Hey Juice... Lighten up there guy. There's no need for name calling or vulgarity. This is an open forum and someone simply asked for an opinion. No one "slandered" anyone.

thanks

I don't see anywhere in this quote where an opinion is asked for. Maybe that is my point

Well Juice,

No one had any real idea where one could find such a kit and then the conversation moved in the direction of practicality.

I still can't find any example of slander, however.

try www.autoloc.com. they have a lambo kit that I believe is a bolt-on setup. the door actually opens out, then up. I think this would preserve the oem specs of the door as in the end, the door still opens and closes like a normal door. it just opens up instead of out once the door is opened. look at the animation on the site to see what I'm talking about.

hope this helps some of you guys...

I agree with Juice and others. It's your car so you should absolutely feel free to modify it as you wish. Just make sure to proudly post the pics after the conversion. Many of us need a chuckle to get through the day.

Jimbo - I'm amused by your sardonic sense of humor.

Has anyone posted that our other link to more pics on the same topic is here?

After looking at these pictures I can't help but see myself cracking my already-too-fragile head on the underside of that door. The advantage of the McLaren F1 and the Saleen doors is that they open upward and outward like wings, offering better ingress and egress. Scissor doors look like they'll do just that: Be like scissors. Ewww...

I can see these coming in handy in parking-lot situations. Whenever the spot is a bit narrow, I can never open my door enough to get in and out comfortably. If the door was to swing up instead of out, that would no longer be an issue.

This could also be turn against for you... you would tend to park nearer to other cars since it is easy for YOU to go out. At the same time it would be difficult for the other... result? A possible door ding ion your NSX!
