NSX JGTC Widebody project

Thank you very much for the photographs and documented write-up of the re-build!

One question I do have is what prompted you to do the widebody?

Was it for performance at the track or was it more cosmetic...

The reason I ask is that most widebody panels weigh more than the OEM Aluminium ones so most widebody conversions are more for show cars and not normally race cars like yours... But a widebody NSX will be able to fit wider wheels on it as well.... Hence my question Gerard. (I know about JGTC cars all being widebody but they have different suspensions and well different everything to the road cars...)
Several reasons made me decide to do this widebody project.

1. Most obvious was, that I had to repair the damage. As you know,
aluminum parts are very expensive and most of the time very difficult to
repair. These parts are easy to repair;

2. Because of my BBK I couldn't go wider than 210x610x17 (the first two
figures are in mm) with my slick front tires and 215x40x17 or 215x35x18
with street front tires. Now I can go to 230 and even 240 with slick tires
in front and 235 or 245 with street tires.

3. The weight part is important, but not that important. The benefits of more
grip are bigger than the few lost pounds. The oem aluminum parts are
a bit lighter, but overall not much. We're only talking about the
fenders. The oem bumpers are plastic already.
Before the widebody conversion, my NSX weighted 1,292kg with 1/2 load
of fuel. Now it weighs about 1,300kg;

4. The cosmetic part I find also important. I like the looks of a widebody NSX.
And if I can mix a little bit of gain in grip and loose a little bit in weight,
but win in looks, I am a very happy person.

The project is almost finished. My Technos wheels are at the paintshop. The wheels will be black powdercoated. So my OZ Superleggeras will do the job for now. The rear isn't finished yet. A GT500 Wing is in back order and diffusers will be handmade.
At the pictures you see the bonnet is painted black. I will return to red this week, because I myself think a red bonnet with a red car is the way to go. But I had to see it first.

In the backround you see the famous Ferrari GTO. This Ferrari is worth more than $ 12,000,000:eek:  The owner (Kroymans) is the Ferrari distributor in Holland and does track racing with this car.

And ofcourse the Tein RA suspension

Here are some new photo's.The bonnet is red again and I have my Techno's black painted:

I am still waiting for the GT500 wing and the diffuser:

The Ferrari Maranello looks old compared to the NSX (just my observation):

Hopefully you got her inside before any damage!!!

It turned out really nice. I think it'll look mean if you put the black hood back on. It'll match the wheels and wing (when you get it).

I am expecting the new suspension and wing next week.

Hi Garard, your NSX looks so Euro, I love it.

how long did it take? it looks to good to get back to the tracks.

If I was racing and seen your NSX in my rear view, and you had a black CF NSX-R Hood, black top, black CF rear Spoiler and your black wheels....that may be eye catching / perhaps intimidating because it would have the mean Black & Red pissed off- get out of my way look.

I bet you cant wait till you get back on the tracks.

please post pictures of your first track event.

thanks for Sharing

Lito

Hi LitoG and Veleno,

You're both right about the black hood and the black top. I have thought about it, but I want to keep my NSX as civilised as possible. And my wife had second thoughts about it. It will look to mean though with al that black. Perhaps next year

Thanks for the compliments,
Gerard

I had my crash in the last weekend of october, but I had to wait for the bodykit. The kit arrived from Japan begin februari. The actual built time was a few weeks. Thanks to Gerrit.
I don't know yet when the X will hit the track again. I'm waiting for some important stuff and perhaps I let the X have a cebatical for this year:wink:
Next weekend I will go to a tunings show at the Track of Assen (TT Track) in The Netherlands.

The slot in the front bumper is what for?
Gerard van Santen said:
I don't know. It came with the kit. If you look at pictures of a real JGTC NSX you see the same.
On the JGTC NSX, I believe the slot is used to vent fresh air into the cabin (see this).

Dimer, thanks for the pictures and write-up.

Gerard, your NSX looks fantastic.

Hello Gerard,

I'm french and i'm register with the NSX club Switzerland.

i was at Spa in 2005, and i was disappointed for you when i've seen your Nsx after the crash

But today she's beautilful, congratulations!!!

Do you come at the general assembly at Dijon?

Bye

Clément

Sorry for my bad english

Hello Gerard,

Very very nice to see your car again and quickly too.
Much much faster than mine in anycase

You and Dimer have made an excellent writeup and excellent pictures too. Very professional too.
One question though. Have you not considered a Type R hood for your car.
From what I have read the NSX-R hood would decrease both your air-resistance as well as your lift. Especially at higher speeds and we all know that those are what you like best

Fantastic thread. Those crash photos are scarey stuff... and seeing the NSX with one headlight slightly busted is sad. :( I've saved all your photos... really nice.

The rebuild looks great - that was a quick rebuild. Take good care of her next time she's out on the track. :)

thank you for posting this.... i enjoyed this a lot

Looking good...Any plans on getting the cf front canards that go with the bumper? How about a rear diffuser?

Wow, looks even better in the flesh.

Good to see you yesterday, we went past on the M40 Southbound as you were leaving the motorway.

Not bad as we left Gaydon a while after you :)

No canards. But a rear diffuser YES.
Thanks,
Gerard
