NSX, dodge viper, e46 M3 convertible or S2000?

Hi All,

Since I'm losing my patience on finding a used NSX (not giving up yet!)....

I'm also considering either:

1. the 03' dodge viper,

2. 02-03' S2000, OR

3. 02-03' e46 M3 convertible...

What's everyone's thoughts on this? I'm a real estate agent who already drives a BMW 04' 530i for daily business purposes, but looking for a weekend car for looks and fun....I live in SoCal, so the weather is great and a convertible would definitely fit the bill...but for sure the s2k and m3 are not headturners like the NSX and Viper since around here, they're dime a dozen. Viper, IMO, would get just the about the same looks as an NSX, but the practicality isn't there....

Has anyone ever drive all three of these cars and can compare them to the NSX? What would you rank from 1-4?

Thanks!

Having driven all 4, here's my ratings.

1) NSX
2) Viper
3) M3 or S2000 , tossup.... (just get 1 or 2)

Man, the Viper and NSX couldn't be more different. If you like the driving of one you most likely will NOT like the other as much. It is like a ninja using a nice sword to kill someone versus a gangster using a Tommy Gun. Both will serve the same purpose but one is much more harsh and loud. If you like torque in your cars the viper may fit your bill.

How in the world can you put a S2000 in that category??

On a sidenote, a friend of mine is selling his here in the Washington DC area:

...i'm sure i'm missing some stuff...

$14k OBO...

What about...........a RX7 ??? BATMANs would suggest it eventually, cause the NSX is so inferior in soooo many ways

LOL...

Well, for an Rx7, you're looking to rebuild your motor every 40k miles...With the Corvette, it never really appealed to me as far as styling goes  I'm sure the z06 can kick some serious ass though...

Why am I considering the s2k? Seems like a very fun car, practical maintenance, convertible, pretty quick if you put a supercharger ! NsX vs S2k? I know, I know...two very different animals...

be patient and wait for an NSX, here is a reason your on this forum and not vipers forum.

i've owed 2 AP1's and an M3. The S2k's are nice cars and by far your cheapest of the above list. dont get me wrong guys i do love my NSX, but i'd much rather have my M3 back. for show it's the viper or NSX. i get tons of looks in my nsx.. in fact too many looks for my taste. i do love how my NSX has no P/S giving me a nicer driver feel. i think you'll enjoy the M3. ive never driven a Viper but i feel like nothing drives like a german automobile. i guess i may be bias, since my DD is an X5 and ever since i owned my first bimmer, ive never went back to the honda world (minus the nsx and bikes)

fd .... Fddd

Our viper guy "Snakey" would say viper. Our vette guy "Netviper" would say C6 Vette. Our resident batman "Batmans" would say batmobile or RX7. And almost everyone else would say nsx.

I say Ariel Atom or GT-R.

I had a rx7. Very reliable actually. 93 fd and no, the engine doenst need to be replaced at 40 k, most are around 90-110 for good maintaince unless you are running it at 14000 rpm 24/7. Really the engine doesnt even need to be replaced, just the seals. the engine only has 3 major parts; the shaft and two rotors spinning freely. Mine had 85k and ran strong. That car would have given the 91-96 nsx a run for its money. Just upgrade the trubos to j-spec or highter for a couple thousand and bam.

Here is my fd. I do miss the twin turbos reving on a car that had perfect weight dist. and weighted nothing lol

With your budget; I'd get the S2K. It's new, won't need much and it's a converitble. It's you all over. The NSX is a specialty car that won't offer you as much versitility and price.

If you are actively considering purchasing these cars and you're not dead set on any single one (which, judging by the disparity of vehicles on the list, you don't really know what you want), then YOU should drive them all before purchasing anything.

Liquid makes THE point. P2 you are all over the map with this.

Bottom line as I was told by P2 that his budget is 25k to 30k. Ok, with that in mind you guys tell me what you think now.

If there is a budget concern - obviously a Viper with it's insurance and obvious mechanical issues for the older ones and just cost of running the damn thing would tell me that with the budget this is pushing the envelope hard to go Viper.

So now we're down to the Bimmer and S2k and NSX. Bimmer - you can get in on purchase price - maintenance is a factor. Convertibles -true convertible tops need replacement - think of that??? Get yourself down in your budget range and you could get a decent Bimmer - not an M3.

Ok so now we're down to the S2k and the NSX. To get the kind of NSX that would be comparible to the others in miles/cost your talking a higher mileage 95 or 96. N2s gonna cost you more like 40k in the 99 range that is. There are plenty of good candidates on Prime - ok. I looked last nite.

So now we're down the S2k - come on guys - let's face it this is a second car for a guy in real estate- common sense will tell you that the S2k with it's reliability, convertible top and buy in price is more what P2 needs in my opinion.

So sure we all want what we may not be able to afford. The decision is going to come down to budget in this case - not which one rides better or is faster or has more pizzaz or power - it's budget that will ultimately drive this bus. I spent a lot of time last nite writing to P2 and giving him advice about NSXs - and now today with his latest post to the group and the selection of cars he's mentioning - I looked at Vipers ok - they aint cheap for anything I saw that I would have. So do you want a rag - no. Get off the viper.

Move on to the only two that make sense in your budget range and thats a Bimmer convertible (non M3) and the S2k - simple economics - so let's quite fooling around here with all this stuff.

Pardon me if I seem just a bit jaded here - but there is another discussion STILL going on about the NSX and C06 - and it is so far off topic and stupid as to be unbelievable. This one will eventually head that way too.

So now that I've exposed the budget piece - let's get real! Enough already. There are good NSXs right now on Prime - you can find em if you want one - REALLY! This is play time. I'm done!

See ya'll; till the next chain puller comes along and you all know what I mean. Adios

U can take the FD or S2k and shoe horn a Vette engine in there.

Lighter than a Z06 with the same 8" penis.

The S2k is even more gutless than the NSX engine.

Dam straight!

And many NSX owners wonder why I come in defense of the FD so much.

If there wasn't so much exaggerated ignorance about the FD negative points I wouldn't even pay attention.

I didn't replace my first apex seal until 110k when I tossed on the straight pipes and the boost shot up to 18psi without any fuel upgrades and management system. it was my bad, but for that week I was spinning my tires through 3rd gear.

I think Batman needs to be the first guy on site to shoe horn a V10 in his NSX or sell it! Just think of the pub you'd get - man what are you waiting for. I'm not sure why you still have the NSX? Supercharge that thing will ya - or go for the V10 which is it. Wonder now if you took the trunk space and worked on it carfully mmmmmmm heck at least a V8 should fit.....would be a hell of a Frankenstiener! Go for it dude!

No body wants those oooold tired RX7s anymore with that whimpy torque ranks right up there with the SC on NSXs doesn't it???

Points been missed again - now we're off on that tangent like the other thread Batman's helped to drive into the stratosphere on the vette vs nsx which now is so far gone it resembles the original thread Nada!

I try to stay on topic and isn't that what we're supposed to do? Somebody help me with an Amen.....
