For those of you lucky enough to own a nsx, how is the car on the highway in everyday commuting mode??? Are the seats comfortable for the long haul?? Is road noise low for a sports car??Can you hear the stereo with out turning it way up?? Is the road ok over expansion joints?? Sometimes these things are not noticed in a test drive when you are going full out on twisty roads..

It won't be like MB or Lexus, but it is great daily driver, I had been doing it for the past 2 years:biggrin:

If you bought a 97+ and kept it stock, I think it would be fine.

The car is wonderful as a highway commuter car!! I drive my '94 NSX every day and it is very comfortable car to drive. Road noise is reasonable, and really depends on which tires you have on the car more than anything else. The stereo is fine in terms of volume and ability to entertain you. My average commuter speed is around 95 mph and there is very little wind or road noise, and the seats help me relax on the way home. I would not drive anything else on most days. :)

You should attend a local NSX meet and ask for a ride since we all have different meaning to "road noise".

Seriously, I dunno about you guys but the NSX's seats are among the most comfy i've ever been in, kinda like 1st class seats on a plane.

The second week I had my NSX I took it on road trip to Montana where we put over 2500 miles on the car over a week. It is extremely comfortable on the road and even got great gas mileage considering the average 85 mph. My wife thought the seats were very comfortable for the trip, more comfortable than other more "luxurious" vehicles we had taken on the same route. The only problem was lack of space in the trunk, although we had enough room for everyday clothes , hiking outfits for Yellowstone, and nice stuff for a wedding we were attending.

When we left Yellowstone to return to Bozeman Hwy 91 had closed due to a severe accident just north of Big Sky. To make a long story short we had to return the Yellowstone and take a 4 hour detour to get back to Bozeman. The road consisted of a mix of straights for as long as you could see where we cruised at 95-110 while being occasionally passed by the lifted F-250's and Dodge Ram's ( Montana cowboys drive REALLY fast), and twisty 25-35 MPH mountain roads where we could easily double the limit.

At our destination I took all my friends out for rides. I had taken a wrong turn in Helena on a six lane city street. Upon turning around I turned the TC off and gave it a little extra gas sliding the back out ever so slightly. A car that was far behind sped up and matched my speed as my friend and I looked over it was a mom in a Camry with three 10-12 year old boy that had the windows down cheering us on after as my friend called it, a Dukes of Hazzard move.

Sorry for the digression, but it was a great trip made much greater by the NSX.

It was a great trip made much better by having the NSX.

NetViper is absolutely right. However the key words are keep it stock. I have a pretty stiff clutch so those times I hit stop and go traffic on the freeway are REALLY not fun:frown: . As far as cruising on the freeway, the car feels just as good if not better than my new fully loaded four door accord.

Whenever I have to take a long trip, weather permitting, I always drive the NSX. It is very comfortable, exciting, and enjoyable, IMO.

What changed to make the comfort/ride better in '97+ models?

I regularly use mine on trips that are 350 miles each way with no real issues. Also put 2000 miles on in about 40 hours after buying it .. only stopping for gas and food .. and I wasn't a cripple when I got home. I have to turn up the stereo more since going to aftermarket exhaust. Other thing I've noticed is that the seat width at the butt might be a little narrow. I'm 6 feet and average size but I quite often find that the seat presses uncomfortably on my wallet. By moving the wallet around in the pocket, I can usually find a comfortable position but if you're wider across the beam, you might have more trouble over long distances .. maybe someone else can comment. Overall though, one of the most comfortable 'trip' cars I've owned...luggage space is another story.

First of all, the 6-speed allows for quieter cruising. Second, I am pretty sure the suspension is a little softer on 97+ cars.

There is nothing wrong with a 91-96 for hiway crusing, but the 97 is better IMO.

I just did a cross country "drive" in my 05 and I didn't have any back problems or driver fatigue! I'm ready to put NSX seats in my Lambo Gallardo, but that would depreciate the value of the car. The Italian seats are like a wooden park bench compared to the NSX!!! Also, if you keep the stock exhaust, it'll be downright quiet on the freeway. This is my 3rd NSX and I'll never sell it!! Good luck!

I just bought mine this past Staurday and plan on driving it every day except for snow. My commute is 90 miles round trip each day and so far it is a joy to drive and this is from a guy who just gave up his 05 Acura RL.....I am so happy it aint funny........Steve

Welcome to the group! The RL is a beautiful commuting car, but you'll have way more fun in the NSX!!! Where do you live and where did you buy your car? Congrats!!!
George

NSX seats are great. Drove NYC to SD in 3 days and it was great. The 97+ have lower engine noise because of the 6th overdrive gear. The 6 speed I was able to get 33 MPG all highways only. This was mostly through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I would not recommend the NSX in snowy or icey roads however.
