Now it won't start!

Starter

When looking to replace a starter, don't overlook your local rebuild shop. I took my original starter to a local rebuilder here in Tampa. For $90 the shop replaced the diodes, rectifier, bearings, brushes and the solenoid. The case was glass beaded and all terminals were replaced. All done the same day. The same shop also rebuilt my original alternator for the same price. Jerry

Yes, you are correct, it's one cable from battery to fuse box then it's join, then goes to starter. My had oxidation up front and in the back. I call in few acura dealers and nobody has this cable, one said they might have it in vintage warehouse but last time I ordered something from vintage warehouse I waited 4 months, summer will be over by that time, lol Knowing now how difficult it's to crimp it, I opt in for a OEM used cable from ebay. My cable is def tired from removing the engine few times and going over with different audio setups over the 19 years I own the car. The cable was moved around a lot.

It makes sens now as this problem followed me even after my J32 swap, so it's different engine and same annoying issue. I never put too much attention to this but I did change couple of starters and I thought it fix the issue when I was on C30 then you get marry have kids I didn't drive it much and forgot about it, and now that I drive it more it's a must to bring a booster battery where ever I go as I never know when it decide not to start.

I'll report back when I replace the cable.

Thanks!

If you have committed to take the cable out (R&R is where most of the agony is involved), then I think having a good automotive electrical specialist fabricate a replacement for you using the old one as a template should be relatively easy. Crimping new terminals on to the cable will be relatively easy when the cable is out of the car. Its trying to crimp a new terminal on the battery end while the cable is still in the car that is exceedingly difficult. The only challenge might be replicating the joiner plate that connects to the engine fuse box.

If you can find a salvage one in good condition, that would be the hot ticket. Definitely check the battery terminals for stretch on your salvage cable because its much easier to replace them while the cable is out of the car. The other option might be to contact user Redbird since he was making up replacement negative cables. He might be set up to do something for you on the + cable.

Small update. The car starts up like a champ. I replaced the spark plugs with NGK spec double platinum and had the injectors serviced by R C (Class Organization 5 Stars). I had 4 dripping Injectors and 2 considered fair. The engine is now purring like a kitten. So Happy now. Yes I bought the car with 132k miles but I did expect hiccups. I got the car at a decent price. Now onto upgrading the still stock radio and speakers. Thank u all for your help.

Glad you've found it. It must have been sitting for a longer time.
People think about 1000 things but ususally neglect the cause no. 1 for a bad starting engine.
