Not many Trick or Treaters...

funny, I was thinking the same thing  maybe with all the shit going on in this world, parents would rather spend $5 on a couple candy bars and just hang out at home with them or host a little get together for the kiddies. Safer IMO.

last year we had *throngs* of kids, this year we had 7 small groups come by the house. looks like jenny craig's gonna have to wait until i'm done with the left over candy....

I didnt even go this year, but yeah there used to be alot of kids. Then again, it depends where you live and how mayb young kids there are in the area.

Yep. I don't know where the kids are going. Where I live there are lots of kids around, and it's a target-rich environoment -- a townhouse complex with lots of houses, very tightly packed. You could easily cover a hundred houses in an hour. Yet last night we got maybe six kids, total.

When I was a kid I used to map out my neighborhood, and draw optimum routes for maximum candy collection with minimal walking, combined with stops back home to unload. Yep, a geek from the start. I don't know what kids do these days.

We had a similar experience this year. Last year we had kids lined up at the entry, so I told my wife to get LOTS of candy for this year. This year we had several groups come by but only a fraction of the number of kids we had last year. As the evening went on, we were handing out fistfulls of candy to the kids that came by. Those kids hit the jackpot at our house this year.

In our neighborhood they just built a really nice community center and a really big local park. The park district had a halloween party there and we took our kids. It was really fun for the kids. They had a DJ, a haunted walk through the park, a bunch of games (bean bag toss, ring toss, etc.), and refreshments. We had to pay two bucks per kid and it was awesome. They recieved a flashlight for the walk in the park, all the candy and prizes they got were good stuff, and all of it was really safe. I think my kids had way more fun then they would have had trick or treating. It was great!

(just back from morning bike ride, was thinking about halloween/this thread)

probably the most unusual trick or treater we've ever had visited our house the other night.

when i answered the door, there stood an asian woman, ~35ish, in a beautiful butterfly costume that was, i'm sure, home made. she didn't say "trick or treat", in fact (pardon the pun), she didn't say "boo" to me during our 15 second encounter. i don't recall ever having an adult trick or treater (except those twins, but that was in the '70's, they **said** they were over 18 and i had been drinking ;) but have to say that i thought her costume was lovely and was glad she stopped by.

We haven't gotten trick or treaters in eight years of living in our townhome complex. We didn't even bother buying candy this year.

I know that a lot of cities around here organize for kids to be able to walk along retail outlets to do their trick or treating during the day. I guess this allows them the option of not going from house to house during the night where safety might be a concern.

I took my little cousin around - she's adorable! She cleaned up - a full pillowcase!
(I had to hold it for her near the end- it was that heavy!)

My folks told me they had a constant stream of kids at the door.
Ottawa, Canada.
