Noisy temperature sensor in central console

Hi,

Well, the dreaded "aspirator fan" in the central console temperature sensor has started humming.

According to the faq, you can blow it out with a can of computer duster stuff. I tried that last night and the fan is quite clean, but it still hums.

Any suggestions other than replace? I hate taking apart the dash, but would removing the fan and cleaning its backside help?

I have taken the console apart without too much difficulty and cleaned the aspirator with alcohol and cotton swabs. It works fine.

You might try a "tuner" cleaner from a stereo shop or Radio Shack before you take it apart. This type of cleaner is also a lubricant and may work better than just air. (Be careful not to spray too much, a couple of quick squirts should do it)

Very common problem.

The right cure is replacing it, but what i've read is that will cost a lot of $$$ (pretty weird for that peice though, lets call it NSX).

I took mine completely apart, just clean everything, and put some WD40 on the bras bearings (read 'holes').

Mine has been fine for a year now. No trouble since.

I just checked... the part costs $231.

I guess I'll do that this weekend. If cleaning was sufficient, then I'll give it a go. Replacement seems a bit excessive at $231.

#$%@ACK... Ive taken the dash apart several times in the past to look for rattles... and I dreaded it every time

If you take on this project I would advise against the use of WD40 as a lubricant. "WD" stands for Water Displacement (formula 40). It was never intended to be used as an oil.

Wheres the faq NAZI when you need a link? Im too damn lazy to use the search!

I just noticed that sound last week, its is very annoying.

100% true, but i did try others i had around, without any result. WD40 did it for me.
