Honda does sketches quite often. They get to control the release that way.

The original yellow NSX on the cover of Car and Driver back in 89 or 90 was a Honda sketch.

Speaking to the point about Honda's reputation for secrecy, the article in that issue states, "Honda gives out early information so grudgingly it trickles down like the Japanese version of Chinese water torture."

The yellow NSX on the cover of Car and Driver's April 1989 issue is a photograph, not a sketch.

I took a 2nd look at it and it's really hard to tell. It could have been a photograph that was "painted" yellow for the cover. There are areas, such as the parking light/turn signal on the left, and the coloring of the front bumper where the image looks "funny". The rear air intake looks like it was painted in as well.

Since the car in the article was red and no other pictures of a yellow car were shown, it's possible that the magazine "painted" the red car yellow for purposes of a unique cover.
