With the NHL hockey lock out and no signs of coming to agreement between the NHLPA and the owners group.. putting this season in jeopardy..

Do any of you guys care about it...?

For those that do.. what are you doing to ease the pain of no NHL hockey?

I found that I get more work done now and I follow NFL football more closely..

Seems just like yesterday that Calgary and Tampa were playing game 7....

I'm a big NHL and Red Wings fan but honestly I don't even notice it being gone. I could care less about most of the overpaid, whining, greedy players. They are getting what they deserve and lets see how they like not getting paid at all! They are ruining a great sport.

I am just paying more attention to footbal now and the Pistons.

Funny how they are striking over money, when I have personally seen Federov's yellow Ferrari Enzo

I am getting a lot more projects completed and trying not to think about the season I am missing. I made it through the 1/2 season a few years ago, so I think I will live.

I have a few car and garage projects on my winter list

I also saved $140 bucks on my directv bill

Beer drinking will probably decrease as well......

Not so much withdrawls anymore as it is I'm just bored and have nothing to watch. Most other sports bore me.

I never really got into the arguments as for the most part, I just didn't care.
I made the mistake of assuming everything would work out and the season would be under way. Never thought the lockout would actually take place.

I always resorted to the argument "It's the Ranger's fault" - as it was my belief this situation occured because several players have been grossly overpaid for what they've produced by various GMs and owners with more money than sense, in turn ruining the true market value of players and raising the bar for other players income wise.

Now I'm begining to side with the owners after seeing how so many players are willing to play for peanuts in the European leagues. I'm not a greedy person by nature, I try to be humble, yet I still believe in concepts of free enterprise, capitialism, and getting paid as much as your worth, but these salaries are ridiculous. I'd be grateful for a 7 figure income, even though I can survive on a 5 figure income. Yet in the end it's all about money, and they're proving it since they continue to take other players' jobs and positions in other leagues for pennies on the dollar in comparison for what they made.
They get paid to play a game for God's sake. We should all be so fortunate. But apperantly that's not enough for some these greedy a-holes like McCabe, Jagr et al.

The players can rot for all I care.
Tear up their contracts and let the mnior leaguers play in their place instead.
Think of it as outsourcing.

The union also bothers me very much as every time a player comes out and says they would agree to a salary cap, or are willing to negotiate, they're silenced by Goodenow and forced to retract their statements in the press.
Watch what you say, must be 1984.

Until the strike is not finished a lot of NHL players are playinf here in Switzerland...

We are enjoying it!
I bet the Swiss players that lost their jobs to NHL players aren't enjoying it :frown:

Actually nobody lost the job, the NHL players are here temporarly (ok we have many that plays always here or that moved from Switerland to the US) until/if/when thr NHL will start again.

If no season will start in the US we will have very spectacular Play Offs!

I'm a huge hockey fan. I cant believe they are letting it go this far.I remember reading somewhere that the players put alot of money away to get through this. Its a shame! I heard that hockey T.V. ratings were lower than bowling before this strike. I think it can possibly kill this sport.

I just checked the payrolls of some NHL hockeys teams, teams like Detroit and New York Rangers have a payroll of 77 million.

if the NFL can have a salary cap of 80.5 million with more twice the players, the NHL can easier have a cap around 36 million. Jagr has made more than 75 million in salary alone. Low budget teams are nothing more than a farm teams.

4 months into the lockout and I am getting used to no NHL hockey. I hope the players playing in the other leagues get used to making alot less so they will come back to reality on what other athletes make out there.

I've been doing just fine watching college hockey on cable. In fact, BU won their inagural game at the new arean the other night.

I don't care the slightest bit. I feel a little bad for the players because now they aren't getting paid, but if they hadn't been so greedy......
IMO, they brought it on themselves.

I think its great!!!!
Durring the summer some of the pros skate with us a few times a week, with the strike we now have 11 pros skating with us every week.
Nothing more scarry for a goalie then letting one of them wind up on you with there slap shots, it hurts like hell when you get hit in the wrong place.
But its fun stoping there shots, I just walk a little funny the next day.

Don't feel bad for them, they do get strike pay...... $10.000 a month durring the season, and $5,000 a month durring the off season.

Greedy Bastards!! I played in college and could now care less about Hockey or the NHL :frown: Kind of sad when I think about it...

Really? Thanks for telling me that. I'll change my tune about them now.
Just hope someone doesn't leave negative feedback for me saying that like they did on another thread.

How are their attitudes?

the NHL season has been officially cancelled...

Oh well wasnt missing it all that much anymore anyways....

online poker with play money is where its at.....

2 more months and the NSX will be back on the road....

don't miss it one bit. I actually went to a local semi pro game tonight and saw one of the Blues players on the ice for the team. I guess he is polishing up his skills knowing the season is a loss.

What's hockey?

THE OWNER'S SUCK....it's that simple

hate to rain on everyone's anti-player rap, but the owners are their own worst enemy.

1]THEY are the people who escalated bid wars on all types of players
to the height they're at now.

2]THEY are the bad bizmen who ponied up retarded franchise fees to the nhl
[ i believe 250 million for the newer marginal teams...gee i wonder why they cannot succeed financially]

3]THEY/ NHL cannot get a DIME for TV rights, where most of the $$$$ is to be found in pro sports. the nhl GAVE nbc broadcast rights, with a advert revenue share plan....no $$$ up front= dumbasses

4]THEY locked out the players from work, the players were ready to go.

5]THEY refused a 24% salary reduction by nhlpa, which would have saved the league 1 billion USD in 5 years, narrowing the league's losses significantly.

6]btw, comparing NFL salarys to NHL is a stretch...nfl owners share big bucks outa the league office, derived form tv. NHL nada... nfl players play 12-15 games, once a week, "three and out", versuses nhl players 86-110, sometimes back to back nights, avg 20 mins on ice, & don't forget 2+ weeks to strut your stuff @ the olympics[ thanx gary for that one...another reason to close the league!!!!!!!!!]

7]nhlpa finally caved in, & presented a soft cap[geez!], still above the average team payroll, oh no THEY said gotta be lower...6.5 mill difference at the end.chump change.

8]THEY lose 200 mil per year....while social security farts out that in a hour
keeping dead weight alive[ok, now i'm really veering...excuse me]

9]THEY do not acknowledge that THEY are fighting THEMSELVES for the scarce resource of quality players, the resource that will put fans in seats, & sticky eyeballs on the tube. cruel irony!!!!!!!!!

10]THEY closed the doors on countless thousands of people who derive a living on supporting the exhibition of the sport in the arenas.

11]THEY have gary bettman...whatta turd!!!what's with that head twitch he does????

12]clutch & grap/neutral zone trap yawner games

13] i gotta stop for now because my blood pressure is WAY TOO HIGH

i am with the players 110%!!! i do not cheer for an owner's bone head fiscal
decision. i will achieve a ecstatic state on a beautiful goal, or save, or check, or tictactoe pass,or fight,or bad call by ref.......
when people say they don't miss hockey, i understand how marginal the sport has become in a world that screams for our attention.
i miss hockey, and i miss driving my nsx :frown:

my 2 loonies...rantfink!!
to be continued, if needed.....for now i hafta get my FLYERS tatoo lasered off me.

btw, have i said i really love the nsx??!!!!

I agree with much of what you say. However, both sides share the blame. Now the owners have the upper hand, and for the good of the league (what's left of it) they need it. The fact of the matter is that a 24% reduction in salaries would not have brought the teams into the black. By not playing this season, the owners actually saved money. That's a sad business environment! Sure, the owners have only themselves to blame for letting it get that way, but the players have to wake up and smell the coffee. Locally, the Blues, for two years now, have made available their books to the players at any time they wanted to review the fiscal realities. No player has bothered to review them.

Here's the big problem as I see it: I firmly believe that if the players were offered a league-wide vote on what the owners have offered, they would have overwhelmingly accepted. I think the players representation is only representing the voice of a small majority of the players - the elite 10-20%. At least locally, now we have some of the good young players playing for the local UHL team, and for a mere pittance of what they would be earning, $1,000 per month.
