Next NSX in the new R&T

So say Honda: 1. Builds this car and 2. Calls it the "NSX." Both of these things could happen, right?
That means that one day, sooner or later, someone will post a new thread and say, "Dudes, check out my new ride," and the pictures will show an ASCC.
What will the reception be? Acceptance(Wecome to the fold, bud)? Denial (Call us when you get rid of that POS and get a REAL NSX)?
It seems the real can of worms will pop open when we need parts or tech advice and we have non-interchageable parts and non-interchageable expertise mixing up for both cars.
Which means that we'd of course have to specify which model we have every time we mention our cars, or, somehow segregate the two groups to avoid confusion ... or rename NSX Prime to "First Gen NSX Prime," or "Real NSX prime," or similar.
OK, still too early for all this. Just thinkin'.

Honda put out a press release today announcing the cars they will show at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show - the NSX successor is not listed. Also, their theme is eco-friendly transportation, so a V10 car would hardly be appropriate.

Yeah got the Honda website update this morning and saw no mention of their next sports car ( Notice I didn't say next NSX  ) and was bummed:frown: ,but the CR-Z is nice and I'm totally still enjoying my NSX and S2000. Right now I figure adding a Civic Type R once it's released should hold me for a few more years:wink:

Hell yeah, i've been waiting for a CR-X replacement longer than the NSX replacement! its long over due.

As I write about weeks ago, they changed way to go, no nsx replacement.
Possible in the future (2009-2010) I believe.

Cr-Z was excactly nice concept :)

TOKYO, Japan, October 9, 2007–Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it will exhibit production and concept automobiles and a number of technologies at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show (sponsored byJapan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.), to be held from Saturday, October 27 to Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

The theme for Honda’s automobile booth for this year is: “For the endless joy of mobility on our earth”. Based on this theme, Honda will display a variety of advanced environmental technologies that address environmental issues such as a reduction in CO2 emissions, together with the fun of mobility.

Two concept models will make their world premiere at the motor show. The CR-Z is a next-generation lightweight sports car equipped with Honda’s original gas-electric hybrid system which achieves both clean performance and a high level of torque. The PUYO is a fuel cell vehicle which was designed based on out-of-box thinking to provide fun for both the vehicle owner and people around them as well. Also on display will be a model of the i-DTEC next-generation diesel engine, first announced in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which delivers both outstanding environmental performance and engine performance characteristics.

Moreover, the all-new Fit, which will go on sale in Japan in late October, will be on display. Since it was first introduced in 2001, the Fit has been widely acclaimed for its style, functionality, and outstanding fuel economy, with worldwide sales topping two million units. The all-new Inspire equipped with a new Variable Cylinder Management system, scheduled to go on sale in Japan later this year, will also be on display. Honda will exhibit a total of 18 vehicles representing 11 different models, including vehicles already on the market, those soon to be introduced, and future concept models.

In addition, a “Next Energy” display will showcase Honda’s latest initiatives in new energy development, including technology for producing bio-ethanol from rice straw and the environmentally responsible next-generation thin-film solar cells, which will go on sale nationwide in Japan. Moreover, Honda’s F1 and other racing machines that symbolize the challenge to realize new dreams and other advanced environmental technologies that enable people to enjoy mobility into the future will also be on display. Through these exhibits, Honda will propose a new direction for the future of mobility.

♦ CR-Z

‘CR-Z’ stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero’—an expression intended to capture the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from fundamentals.
This design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car features advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all while reducing the vehicle’s environmental footprint.

Exterior design
Designed to be ‘Futuristic and Dynamic’, the CR-Z combines powerful performance in a compact form with a futuristic image. For its frontal view, an over-sized grill with a high-performance look is offset by openings on each side that lighten the overall feel. In the rear, tube-shaped rear combination lamps ensure better rearward visibility. Design details emphasizing the CR-Z’s advanced image include door mirrors that provide high visibility in a stylish form, LED headlights patterned after luminous bodies to convey a sharp impression, and jauntyfin-shaped sub-lights. Large, 19-inch wheels are ready for dynamic driving performance.

Interior design
The key words for the CR-Z’s interior design are ‘Hi-tech and Sporty’. The goal was to create an all-new sporty interior that fuses the liberating feel of airy spaciousness with an advanced interface that brings out the fun of the drive. Mesh material on a simple framework construction is used throughout the interior to convey a light, sophisticated image without being oppressive. In the cockpit, the meter unit conveys the image of advanced technology ensconced in a piece of glass artwork, offering the functionality of immediate recognition while enhancing the driving experience with a futuristic and exhilarating feeling.

♦ PUYO

‘PUYO’ is a Japanese onomatopoeia that expresses the sensation of touching the vehicle’s soft body. It is meant to convey a warm, friendly impression.
The PUYO represents a new idea in mobility that brings together ‘clean’, ‘safe’ and ‘fun’ functionality in an environmentally responsible, people-friendly minimalist design featuring an ultra-high efficiency, small frame and fuel cell technology to please both users and onlookers alike.

Exterior design
The development theme for the PUYO exterior was to create a cornerless, ‘Seamless Soft Box’ form that is kind to both people and the environment. The goal was to create a personable design with the feel of an adorable pet, while taking advantage of the maximum spaciousness of the box-shaped design. The PUYO’s ‘gel body’ features soft materials to promote greater real-world safety. Moreover, the body has been made luminescent to guide people into the proper operating position and notify them of the vehicle’s condition, facilitating a more intimate relationship between people and their cars.

Interior design
Developed to have a ‘Silky Feel’, the PUYO’s interior is designed to provide a refreshing, people-friendly space imbued with a feeling of transparency. Features such as an instrument panel monitor, controls that take advantage of the elastic qualities of cloth to rise up when the vehicle starts up, luminous fluid meter displays, and a joystick for intuitive operation are all designed to gently support occupants’ senses and sensibilities.

So far Honda has it looking pretty good. Man thought for sure I was going to get dissed for saying I liked the CR-Z..LOL

I'll take one in Type-R trim please, or i'll just settle with an Si.

I don't like the CR-Z Audi A3 knock-off grille, I loive everything else about it but I don't think Honda has any space for it in their lineup.

Why not? The 08 S2000 is their last sports car:frown: . In 09 Honda won't have a single sports car in their line up. I like the Civic Si but it's not a sports car. The Civic Type R will be nice ,but that's a four door so Honda will have plenty space. Of course they don't have time to get the CR-Z ready for 09.

Just to stir the rumour pot:

At NSXPO on the weekend, there was a gentleman from the Acura California design studio sitting at dinner on Saturday night listening to NSX owners complain about the direction of the NSX replacement, and what we would like to see.

When the bitch fest was over, he quietly said, not to worry, you'll be happy with what is shown at Tokyo this month.

True story, but who knows what will make us happy.

LOL did he mean the CR-Z? J/K I guess this gives us some hope that they'll surprise us.

I think most are stuck on the mindset that the next NSX needs to outperform the F430 for under a $100k like Chevy did with the Z06. I hon estly think Honda can ,but not sure they want to. I for the record would be happy with the HSC design with a V6 that outperforms the Cayman S / 911 /R8. Of course I would also be happy with a 612 and 599 competitor

If Honda makes the next NSX look anything like that photo, I'm predicting a TOTAL consumer failure. It looks like it was designed by the same designer who created the visually bankrupt RL.... what a disgrace. As I've said before, Honda's R&D Dept is run by geniuses and their Design Dept is run by people with bad taste.
Honda, if you're probing this site, and I know you are... please reevaluate your design team. We can only be loyalists so long before we move to other brands that make good looking cars.
That being said, I love my NSX and I still think Honda rocks... for now.

Well, cause I thought that CR-Z would be placed between the Fit and Civic, and with the Si being a good deal with good performance I would see no need for the CR-Z.

So the CTR is coming to the US but only as a 4-door??

Man, that car is oooogly. no thanks.

This is the one of the better "photoshop" versions of the ASCC. This I would buy. I wish that Acura/Honda would take the 911 approach and offer different versions to keep interest alive - 911, 911S, 911GT3, 911GT3RS, 911 turbo. At least give us a V6, V8, V10 option. $40,000 V6 with 300-350hp in the body design below and I would take one and beat up on Caymens all day long and would be a good option to the upcoming Supra (V6 or V8). Honda are you out there, give us options and don't try to create one car for everyone. Another example of a company that provides options - Mercedes-Benz. The SLK come in the 280, 350, and 55AMG versions. Along with the SL-Class which has the SL550, SL600, SL55 AMG, and SL65 AMG. I guess I must patiently wait for the Tokyo Auto Show. Please Honda, don't be another disappointment like the Detroit Auto Show when introducing the ASCC.

Possible D.O.T. regulations may require the headlights to be positioned higher, perhaps matching the the top of the fender arch. And of course the grill would have to be raised to match the lines of the headlights. The sloping front hood line is nice but it screams - ROCK CHIPS. Clear mask will be a must!

Having 17 years to redesign the car you would think HONDA could come up with something better. :frown:

2010:eek: - Can you believe I was actually thinking of waiting for the "next NSX" in 2002-03 when I first bought my NSX. Pathetic

Okay people, it's time to put this topic to sleep. Honda did not make one cent on the NSX when they built it from 1991 to 2005, they never intended to do. What they did accomplish was to do what everyone said couldn't be done; produce a reliable hand built exotic sports car that could rival the best.

I don't believe that there is any intent on Honda coming out with a redesigned NSX ever again, and that is one reason why I'll never sell mine.

Wow, I saw the magazine "Car" at Barnes and Nobel and thought the new McLaren P11 sure does look like the HSC. What do you guys think?

Nik

**Whoops, I edited to say HSC and not the dreaded ASC"C"**

That's the best version of the next NSX that I've seen. Should have been released last year w/ a 450hp V8, sh-awd, and brembos.

Mclaren P11 looks beautiful at first. Upon closer inspection I see Carrera Gt headlights (almost), G35 rear quarter/bumper, needs better flowing wheels, AUDI R8 side view. I do like the rear view/valence and exhaust exit.
