New to me 93 GPW #23

A little update on the NSX. Talked to Source 1 yesterday about what the plans are. Looks like the motor is coming out this week for a full major service, all fluids in the car changed, every gasket, every seal, every little nook and cranny will be gone through. Getting all of the other parts in order for the paint shop to take care of the re-spray. Some engine goodies are going to be powder coated to update the look and refresh items that look old. Everything is going to be done to keep the car classy oem. Where there is something that can improved without drastically changing the appearance from OEM it will be updated. Sourcing a few small parts this week and then we are off and running on the restoration of the GPW. Hoping to get up to source 1 this week and take some progress pictures and post them up here. Can't wait to bring her back to her old glory and take her for a nice drive.

Now that I've read the full story behind the unicorn, I'm excited to see it brought back to life, too.

Unicorn update

Well the time has come to update the long journey of restoring the nsx code name unicorn. A lot has happened since I purchased the car. I have started a new career in collegiate athletics, had an amazing baby girl, and have learned an amazing amount about our extraordinary machines. As Brian from Source 1 can attest to this car has had many many hurdles along the way, some self induced, others as just part of the journey. As we all know it never goes according to plan.

Ok back on topic....The restoration. So it started with Brian doing a complete overhaul of the motor and all major mechanicals. Everything checked out fantastic, compression was perfectly within specs, new timing belt, water pump, hoses, fluids, gaskets, and anything else he saw that was worn, tired, or just not up to par. While the motor was out I took advantage of the space and the lift the car was on. A full on detail of the entire engine bay, every fitting, every screw, cleaned, polished, and sealed. I'm uber OCD, sometimes to the point of driving myself insane. Once the bay was cleaned up and the motor was back in, I had to enjoy the car for a few even in its busted and appauling appearance. Once inside and behind the wheel I fell in love. The experience, the connected feeling, the sounds, and the handling. One word Superb.

After a few hundred miles and a lot of smiles it was time to make the list of pursuing perfection with this restoration. I had an initial budget in mind and well let's just say my OCD took over and that went to the wayside. If I was going to do this I was going to do it 100%. Everything single detail was going to be oem and I would not settle for anything else.

I took the car to prestige automotive in late May and we got work making a check list of everything I wanted to do. It was a long list, not sure a laundry list would cover the length but it should suffice. Every part came off the car, every screw, every bolt, every nut, every piece of plastic. Everything was bagged and labeled and pictures were taken to ensure 100% original re installation and assembly. New parts that were ordered all Honda front and rear inner fender liners, both front inner fender shields, rear hatch struts, rear glass struts, rear bumper, 02 oem rear valence, rear bumper bar, rear bumper mounts, bumper brackets, front bumper, front lower, front lip, front brackets, front bumper support, front combination lights, had to source a trunk lid from a fellow member, sourced a center tail light, right taillight, left tail, and spoiler. All new oem wires and oem plugs. This was the initial order to get the ball rolling.
Next step was body work. It had a few dings and scratches. I didn't want any body filler on this car so we Brought in an aluminum body specialist to work the dents and smooth everything out to my satisfaction. The result was fantastic. The whole body was blocked and sanded and came out smooth as can be. Every part came off the car as well as all of the rubber. Anything that was damaged or worn was replaced with new.

I also wanted to refurbish the interior. I have yet to install the new leather on the seat but everything is coming along. Still have a few loose ends to tie up in the interior but all is well for the moment. Have to send the amps off to have them rebuilt, do the sos CNC door handle fix, new e brake leather, already replaced the chrome push knob and spring (was a total pain in the ass by the way), new floor mats, and new carpet. New steering wheel is installed, shift boot and shift knob.

Every square inch of the car has been meticulously gone over by me and it's still not 100% where I want it but day by day it's getting closer.
I'm traveling at the moment but will post pictures early next week of the progress. Thank you all for your posts and support.

great save...proud of you, your wallet and dedication to the marque. Also good choice in restoration shop.

Nice work! It sure takes a lot of time, money and patience to get such a great result.

I love a happy ending :D Great job!

Great job with engine and paint repairs. Nice to see it on the road again. Congratulations.

We need to incorperate the new Favebook smilies into posts. If we had the smilies you would get a WOW, HEART, and a THUMBS UP!! The dedication to this rebuild is amazing. Your dad is proud, that is for sure.

On a side note, I dont know how your OCD can handle the zig zag pattern of the vaccumed floor mats, haha
