I think those are the little LED light that are available for the valve stems. I believe they are battery operated and look like a neon ring when the car is moving.

I hope thats what you reffering to?

No way, I know what you are talking about and if it would be that , they would make a complete circle. These heat trails can only be seen where the calipers dont cover the rotors.

Not necessarily. If the exposure of the image isn't long enough, the NEON valve stems would not come all the way around and make complete circles. If you consider the (almost) circles as the amount of travel during the exposure length, it appears to be similar in length to those light streaks behind it.

Those heat circles are to consistent to be made by a valve stem with a diode in it. Notice the spacing where the light is not visible is equal on both tires and consistant with where the calipers are.

I would bet my life that the brakes are just so hot that they GLOW!!!!! Valve stems that glow on a race car are you guys serious? If you look at the back rotors the glow is not at bright as the front. To me this means the fronts are hotter because they do more work. Unless the batteries are going dead in the back.

i believe that it is Leman,it is one of the audi's that raced there and it is the rotors/discs.they get so hot under the constant braking(remember it is a 24 hour race)that they glow.i spotted it a number of times when i watched the race(part of it anyway)on tv.

Sorry,

Jumped to conclusions. Your theories make more sense.

your theory is flawed. if it was an led light moving on a fixed point on the wheel, the path of the light would not be circular.

I thought that too, but assuming the cameraman kept the car framed in the same spot during the exposure (and that's pretty evident since the hotspot from the headlights is not streaking), then the path of neon valve stems would indeed be circular.

IOW, just like when people take pics of cars in front of a fast moving background, the road, sidewalk, scenery is blurred, and so are the wheels/rims, but not the car (and it's brake setup as well) since those are stationary relative to the camera.

That picture could be from Sebring. Note the wall behind the car. I believe that at LeMans, the cars are further away from the pit wall. As for the glow, that is definitely the glow from the disks. Note that the glow isnt visible in the spot where the calipers are. That glow isnt that impressive anyway. Not as compared to a Formula 1 car where you can see the brake disks glow in broad daylight. In 2000, I stood along the braking area for the chicane leading onto the front straight in Montreal. Every car that put their brakes on emitted an intense orange. It was bright sun out, and you could still see the orance, as if it was a light. Was impressive.
