I guys. I just put a down payment on an 01 NSX-T. I have a few questions about some upgrades I want to do right away.

1. It does not have keyless entry, and I want to add it. Is it better to go to the dealer and get the factory accessory, or go aftermarket?

2. I'd like to install HID lighting. Anyone have any experience with the changover?

3. The CD changer is an Alpine. The owner said it was installed at the dealer and is covered by the factory warrantee. Is it common to not use the Acura accessory CD changer?

4. Has anyone had a cover made that just covers the windshield, side windows, and rear window? I think that would be useful for when the top is off, and I need to park in the sun.

Thanks all.

Keep the shiny side up

Hi Mike,

When do you pick up the car? What color is it? To answer your questions....

1. The factory keyless entry is limited to just that, keyless entry. An aftermarket unit will get you more options like opening the trunk, roll up/down the windows, perimeter sensors(for when the targa is off), keyless lock/unlock, ALARM, and some other stuff. I'd get the aftermarket.

2. HID is another option that just happened a couple of months ago, at least a plug and play unit made specifically for the NSX. Check out http://www.autolamps.com for the specific kit. To get better opinions on it, do a search for "HID" on here since we've discussed this before.

3. The factory changer is an Alpine unit in disguise. Actually, if your car didn't come with a changer it's much cheaper to buy an Alpine changer and adapter plug instead of the OEM changer. Many have done this including myself.

4. As far as a cover that only covers the "canopy" section of the car, I have never heard of one. I did however notice that there was one made for my convertible rx7 so maybe you can have one custom made? If you have an extra evo4 car cover that you're not using, you can have an upholstery shop cut and sew one up to fit, and attach some elastic straps to go around the mirrors, and some other straps that connect to the rear glass and front wiper area.

Hope that helps a little. I'm sure others will chime in when they get a chance.

Happy Holidays

Congrats on the soon-to-be new car! Veleno answered most of your questions, but I would like to elaborate on #3...

If the CD changer in your trunk says Alpine and not Acura, it is not the OEM CD changer. The dealer may have installed it, but it will not be covered under the car's Acura warranty because it is aftermarket. The dealer may have told the buyer that THEY would cover it for the term of the warranty, but Acura as a whole will not. But yes, it is very common to use the Alpine changers - the OEM changer is just an older Alpine model relabeled Acura and you can get a much better Alpine changer for much less money than the one Acura sells with their name on it.

Regarding the "canopy" cover - I have never heard of anything like that for the NSX so I don't think one exists. The roof is really pretty quick and easy to put in place. I would imagine that you could reinstall the roof and put a collapsable sunshade in the front window when you park in the same time it would take to put a canopy cover over the car and it will be more secure and mostly just as well protected from the sun.... The OEM glass on the 2001 cars rejects UV pretty well.
