Definitely a significant compromise in terms of cabin noise for even short drives, especially with a straight pipe exhaust. It would be fairly easy to remove the rear partition and extend to achieve the other two points thou should I opt to do so at a later date.
Andrie Hartanto said:I'm just raising the issue of aluminum cage because I personally think it is unsafe. But if anyone else believe it is safe enough, go ahead.
Some users might choose to go with the aluminum offering for the weight savings. My unit is steel as I indicated in the article. I believe Carbing reports the AL to be approx. 50% lighter. I wouldn't opt for that compromise because of the possibility of multiple hits, but any safety compromises by going that route is each users call.
Andrie Hartanto said:Like I said, everyone has their own thing when building their own car. Some are happy with all blingtastic cage and installed them in their car for show purposes not to actually protect them. In fact I've seen a cage made of PVC at a car show.
Hmm, I've never seen that before, but I'll take your word as it sounds as if you must attend a lot of these types of events.
Andrie Hartanto said:Different stroke for different folks. I don't mean to slam anyone, just raising a possible safety issue.
Andrie, your feedback is always welcome. I had discussed the AL vs. Steel roll cage construction myself on a few occasions out, and there are always identical conclusions due to the properties of the metals. I do recall this thread recently to that effect:
