NEW NSX-R

Just wondering, what is the difference in the NSX, NSX-Z, NSX Type S, NSX Type S zero, and NSX Type R?

I would really like to know; I figure the NSXt is the targa, and assume the NSX-Z is the Zan. model; but what is sig. different in the R and S? I have heard the s zero was the ultra light superfast nsx, but am not sure...

How did the ITR do ??

It has been much more successful in sales than the Zanardi was. In '97, only about 300 were sold, and they were hard to find. In '98, they brought in around 1200; those in big cities sold out quickly, whereas those in smaller markets sometimes sat for a while. But once they announced it wouldn't be available in '99, the remaining cars were quickly snapped up. They brought it back for 2000 and 2001, with around 1500 cars each year; those cars also sold like the proverbial hotcakes. In all cases, the ITR sometimes sold for over MSRP, and often sold for MSRP. It was rare to buy a new one for a better price than $500 under MSRP.

Obviously, the ITR was a less expensive car than the NSX-Z. In 2000-2001, MSRP was $24,800 including shipping; I think it was slightly less (by ~$1K) in '97-98, but air conditioning was optional.

Look in the FAQ, here.

Its kind of sad that there are only 50 Zanardi's made, and the demand is so low for them.

The last camaro sold for $71.5K, and the 1st 350Z with Vin #1 sold for $95.1K. How much did Zanardi #2 or #50 go for?

My god, what is this world coming to, where cars like the 350Z and Camaro goes for 2x and 3x the sticker price?

BTW, my almost immaculate Z#50 was purchased from Sierra Acura of Alhambra for $75,000 (plus tax and licenses)last year, with 7000 mi. on the odo at the time of my purchase. Okay okay, so it's NOT the best deal in town as far as NSX goes, BUT it's NOT just another NSX. IT'S a ZANARDI #50 fer Crissakes!!!! I gotta have it! Sure, I was offered a much better deal from Pasadena Acura for their RED '01-T. BUT that car sitting on the Pasadena showroom floor was JUST another -T, and they're a dime a dozen compared to the Z#50 (no offense to all of you guys, please don't flame me for saying this
wink.gif
), so NO deal for me. I said to myself, why would I want to buy a T-top when they're so many of them out there, but there's only ONE type S Zanardi #50 sitting on the dealership floor not far from where I live. It's so clean and perfect (not counting swirl marks on the right pop-up headlight) that one would be stupid and crazy to pass up this perfect opportunity to own a Zanardi in such near mint condition as this #50.

So the rest, shall I say, is history.....

Continued from last post......

So would I pay more than sticker for the Z#50 NEW if given the chance? Definitely!!
The first owner, a very nice, well-to-do young Armenian-American gentleman who lived up in the hills near Calabasas-not far from the dealership that originally sold the car new, paid $100,000 for it. If was into cars back in '99, I'd be willing to offer a few thousand dollars more for a mint condition Z#50 with no more than 50 odo miles logged in by QC tester at Tochigi.
Please pardon me for going off topic here. I can't help but to express my passion for my Z#50. Like who wouldn't, right?

We're going off topic now, but... I continue to hear conflicting reports about the RSX-R; some are certain it will come, and others are equally certain it will not. My personal belief (just guessing) is that we will see it introduced here at some time during the current generation RSX model cycle. In any case, though, just like with the NSX

Amem, providing the upper valued cars don't get soft in market sales, which is happening in certain areas. Dependent on our economy, its going to play a major roll in what we see over here in the future.

That's very true. The effect of the economy is hard to predict, but not to be taken lightly. So far, the auto industry is doing very very well in a very severe recession - largely, but not entirely, due to financing incentives. However, the industry could take a tumble overall, and/or there could be some adjustments as far as the mix of cars desired. That's part of what hit the NSX so hard a year after it came out; expensive cars (of all sorts) just weren't selling at all, partly due to the recession during the term of Bush 41, partly due to the luxury tax imposed on 1/1/91.

I think 50 was too many and the fact that they were all red did not help. Given that the NSX-R engines are specially selected/blueprinted and with the other differences compared to the Zanardi, it would have done better back in '98. But today, I think most people would find the NSX too dated or too close to a model change to plunk down money for a less than comfortable and not very streetable car...

Given the difficulty they had selling only 50 Zanardi NSXs, it's no wonder they didn't bring in the Type R model. The market for a lightweight, decontented version of the NSX (and any other high-performance sportscar) is but a tiny fraction of that of a more conventional model.

There were several people on the board (Newton, wagyshag) who bought the 2002 cause they liked the new headlights. Believe it or not, there are some people who LIKE the update (me included).

I agree with true. There is a lot to like in the new features. HID headlights are a dramatic functional difference. Larger wheels and wider tires are more subtle but a nice visual cue. And, while some people like the older look better, I was more struck in person by how similar to the '91-01 it looks than by the differences.
