Were they running 5th based on track speed.... or did it have to do with the fact that 14 cars didn't finish the race (is it 3 teams use Ferrari engines? I thought I heard a stat that- all 6 cars with Ferrari engines broke down.)
After the start when the cars settled into their position, Barrichello's Honda was running 6th and maintained that position in front of the Ferrari for quite a while. True, most cars dropped out but they were already running from behind the Honda. Considering the lousy off season testing time, I was quite surprised to see a Honda car in the top ten after the first lap. Very encouraging sign.
As for the engine configuration for the next NSX, who really knows. I just know that it makes sense to come out with a new NSX after reclaiming another F1 world championship. Why spend hundreds of millions in F1 and exhaust your engineering talent yet in the end not producing something special to showcase your company and make money.
