Yes, the idea behind the Lamborghini Miura mid-engine supercar came from all over the ocean, from the United States, were the Ford GT40 was designed and built.
AU_NSX said:That article is not entirely accurate BTW.
It was NOT designed and built in the United States. The Ford GT40 was in fact designed and built in the United Kingdom!
qvpower said:The miura show car had its lenses on the signal lights that were positioned on the side view mirrors stolen at the unveiling. As a result, Winkelman was very very pissed off about this. There might be no more unveilings like this anymore as a result. They were extremely angry because the car is to be unveiled at detroit officially, now with no lenses. They couldnt imagine who in their stupidity would stoop that low to steal those lenses. I cant imagine why anyone would do something like this and ruin the possibility of future events like this for all of us.
AU_NSX said:What I think is a joke is when the "Designer" takes credit for HIS "new" design like the "designer" of the new Ford GT! (as seen on Rides on Discovery Chanel) Give credit were credit is due and that is to the designers of the original GT40 and not that young punk who showed us how HE sketched the design for the current Ford GT!... Oh please!

design is way more than a general rough sketch. The designer is involved throughout the whole process. The GT is not identical to the GT40, it's bigger and the aerodynamics are different. Those things are easy to change, engineers do it everyday. But to change them, make something bigger and smoething smaller, add this here, lose that there... THEN still have the original iconic shape of the original... is design.
I, personally, think it is more of a feat to blend an original design with modern mechanicals and pull it off to the point where you can't tell it was redesigned, as compared to a completely fresh design... where you can do anything you want, and if this fender here needs to be flared for some reason, you can just do it.
just my $0.02.
AU_NSX said:rickysals, I'm not disagreeing with you... In fact I agree totally! The car has new suspension, engine and is a totally new car! And there are other things like the interior, colours, gauges, etc which have to be designed in a retro but ergonomic way...
But if you watch the episode that I saw on Discovery chanel (Rides I think it was)... I'm sure you'll see what I'm talking about... The designer sits there and shows you how HE sketched the shape of the car!...
The shape of the car is the ONLY thing which didn't need to be designed!
