I read this on another forum

Just to get you up to speed this is what is going on. A guy wants to buy a f430 but has never had a Ferrari before. He refuses to pay over sticker for any car and has always had P cars and has had 5 new ones in the last 2 years. He just does not understand why he has to pay oversticker to get one. Well one day he goes to the dealership and decides that he is gonna just get one even if its over MSRP. Now he walks into the dealer ready to buy and The dealership tells him Im sorry but I cant sell you a f430 and he is floored and cannot understand why.

This is one of the replies he got.

I don't thing anyone took any offense just that folks just probably scratchin' their heads as to why you don't get the process.

Example: 15,000 total production of F430 cars. 25,000 people who want to buy them. Ferrari can do one of two things.

1. Sell cars to the highest bidders (this would make them the most $$$ but most likely alienate many long time Ferrari clients). 2. Sell cars at MSRP to customers in order of how loyal and how much they have spent with the marque over the years (this keeps the dealer/customer relationship going but makes it difficult for someone to get in on the ground floor that has no previous relationship). That is why you practically MUST "buy in" if you want to get the latest and greatest F-car. A dealer will sell you a pre-owned car at a reasonable price (they don't make a killing) and eventually you will get your latest and greatest Ferrari.
It's really very simple and it's also the reason that the resale on these cars is so good. Porsche makes way too many cars for them to retain any decent resale value and since they make so many, anyone off the street with cash in hand can have whatever they want. Lambo is a brand that is making a comeback. They are producing more cars than ever so they are looking for customers. Right now you can still walk in and buy a Lambo just like a Porsche. Someday I think Lambo will have the same thing going as Ferrari but this won't happen until they get a loyal customer base. Not until then will Lambo resale values improve and approach Ferrari numbers.

No hate, just explanation. I feel you pain but you gotta understand, the dealer has nothing against you, they are just playin' by the rules of the game. How would you like to be a loyal customer and find out that someone got ahead of you on the lest who never even bought a Ferrari before got a spankin' new 430 at MSRP? I know I would be fuming.

Here is another poster with some kind words and a suggestion

if u love the ferrari, dont be discouraged, buy a used one, and work ur way into it

Even better

Guy walks in to a Acura dealership and sez: "I would like to buy a 06 NSX."
Dealer sez: "Sorry, you will have to wait untill 07 +- to get the new HSC model."

why doesn't the guy get a 550 or 575? Those are not as in demand as the 360 or 430. I mean, if he wants "a" Ferrari, then he'd could score several.

ferarri can sell there cars for however much they want to and they know that. there are so many ferrari colectors that dont care how much the car is or how much over msrp it is. if they want it they will just buy it. the dealers know that as well, they know if they dont sell it to this guy they will find someone who will pay over the msrp. as for them not selling it, i dont know  maybe they are goin to hold it to milk it for more money in the future, or use to get people to go there.

You have to be smoking crack to pay over MSRP for a Ferrari. The crap going on with the 430 is the same nonsense that happens every time they release a new model. When the 360 came out dealers were gouging the prices into the $300K range. If you're patient and smart you'll let the numbnuts out there get suckered into paying those prices then wait till they start selling them in droves. There is a veritable fleet of them for sale on eBay, all with low miles and prices below $150,000.

People never learn.

What im trying to point out here is you cannot just walk into a Ferrari dealership and just buy the newest car they got even if you got the money.
From what I have learned you might have to buy something else that they have sitting around like a 360 or 575 or whatever to get into the game first. Just today I was at lunch with a bunch of friends and one of them is buying this f430 from the dealership he deals with. He currently has a 360 but in order to get on the list for a f430 spyder he needs to buy this car for now in order to secure the relationship with the dealer so that they will give him preference on the next available car.

Its like Ferrari and there Enzo ..... They know who the big loyal Ferrari owners are and if you have been loyal to the marque then you get a chance to own one.

too much hassle for a car you can put 4,000 miles on a year. Buy a Gallardo for $150,000 and build a nice garage for it.

blah to ferrari's. nice cars, but seriously... not worth the hassle, to me.

Yep most of what someone is paying for is hype and bragging rights.

thats great

The used Ferrari market has many non-Ferrari dealers so you can be shielded from this "you're not good enough to buy this car" brand snobbery. It's actually kinda ironic because I encountered this 'snobbery' when shopping for an NSX.
