NEW!! BC Racing Type ZR Triple-Adjustable Coilovers Prototype Set

ASMALLZ76, this is a healthy discussion about remote reservoir coilovers. It isn't about bashing BC Racing. I even made sure to state that as I don't want this to turn into something like that. I know exactly how the current set of BC coilovers perform as I have them on my car. Even still I will try to word my statements better, but it is the internet and I can only do so much to temper how words may come across. Thanks though.

BC said Dynos will be available AFTER SEMA show. Not before.

Heres the car ready to be displayed in BCs booth if any of you are attending this year!

This shouldn't be intended as a bashing campaign. Among the 3rd tier coilovers BC Racing and Fortune racing seem to be the leaders of that pack. I think education is empowering so it's important for all NSX owners to know what their buying and why certain items are done for marketing purposes yet others have true performance impact.

Hopefully some folks who are not in the know have taken 5 mins to read my link posted above.

I've probably spent close to $10-12k on my suspension after trying out 4 different setups over the years. Excluding my time in labor cost and deducting salvage value for previous suspension assemblies I'm at about $8k into my setup. My current setup cost me about $4300 so that's a loss of $3700 over the course of my 10yrs of ownership. I could have saved that money if I got myself educated in the first place.

One could argue... I didn't know what I wanted at that point and that's a fair argument. Afterall, I decided I don't need a set of Motons, Penskes, or the Race JRZs for $14k because I educated myself on what incremental value those expensive shocks give me vs. the cost. I just wish I saved myself $3700 to begin with.

This goes the same for guys who are considering BCs or (insert other brands here). They might be ok with mediocre performance for their intended use of the vehicle.

Its like you are the NSX Yoda, Regan. I love reading your posts.... you are very knowledgeable in so many areas.

I got a chance to see the BCR coils at SEMA, it's typical 3rd tier quality as another put it. A lot of marketing flash in words used to generate excitement. I'm in marketing so I know this stuff, nothing wrong with it if the buyer believes :)

General rule in life is you get what you pay for, especially true in car parts moreso than fashion (aka handbags!)

I'm no suspension expert but I know KWV3's are very high quality units since we install those quite often on BMW's. Tein Flex is a good mid-quality coilover as well. We have installed BCR on IS-F and many other JDM cars. It seems the target demographics for BCR is younger crowd who is more into looks than overall performance. It's a one time sale. Once a BCR coil blows, the cost to replace the one damper you might as well buy a new set. All of this is from experience so take it with a grain of salt. We had one of the VERY first BCR coils for testing many years ago and the quality is meh, more show than go that's for sure.

In the BMW world where there is strong aftermarket support, most trust KW's and Bilsteins. They are the top brands for mid quality systems. 5-digit suspension is not needed on the street nor is it in the average consumer's budget.

KW V3's on mine.. and on my Audi RS4. It's standard equipment on C63 and CLK63 AMG Black Series for Merc.

I was told by BC Racing directly that the ZR type is now available and the price with Swift Springs is pretty similar to KW V3.

Some more info from BC Racing:
BR type are our Single dampening coil over system.

Our ZR type's are our Triple dampening system and is used for more dedicated track vehicle.

With the ZR type's you are able to compression and rebound hi speed and lo speed.
