Need help with radiator

I noticed there is some coolant dripping from the hole on the bottom of the radiator. This hole is right below the drain plug (bottom of radiator) on the driver side and looks like it is on the same spot (or part of) as the drain plug.

I tried turning the drain plug and it is tight.

Any idea or help would be appreciated...

Thx.

get a new drain plug.

you can get one from pep boys or autozone's HELP section.

it could be that your drain plug seal is old. If its something serious and you cant find it, bring it by, ill check it out free of charge :)

happy motoring

Thanks Rob.

I wonder why there is a drain hole below the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. I was under the impression that the coolant is drained out by unscrewing the plug out, like the drain on the top of the radiator.

Is that a universal drain plug? Same as the top one?

Based on the location of the drain hole on the bottom of the radiator, the seal has to be somewhere in the middle of the drain plug. Does it sound like common?

Thanks....

Hey no worries

the point of the drain hole is you can attach a hose to it and direct the water flow.

You can pull off the drain plug and it will allow higher flow but if you have a bottle or container you want the coolant stored for disposal, a small hose is perfect for this purpose

When you unscrew the drail bolt, the coolant will first come out the little hole at the bottom.

wait for your car to be cool. unscrew the old plug and QUICKY put in the new one

lol, after you had a coolant shower, fill up your system.

make sure to have a container ready so you dont let this stuff get in the drains and kill animals.

Thanks again for the explanation......

The drain plug is [probably] fine, however the plug DOES require a new o-ring from time to time.

The o-ring flattens with age and no amount of tightening does any good...."tight" doesn't help o-rings seal regardless.

yep.

easy to go to pepboys and get one for $5 then go to the dealer :)

probably charge you $5 for an o ring.

does it only have one seal near the tip of the plug like this one on the picture?

Or is there a second one sitting flush on the other end where you turn it?

I think my problem is with the one near the tip of the plug since it is leaking through the hole near the middle of radiator on the bottom.

Just the o-ring will do the trick, the hole is for easy draining of coolant.

Do the top one while you are at it. Mine started leaking from the top a few weeks ago and the o-rings from an acura/honda dealer took care of the issue. You will need to refill and rebleed your coolant system too.

Just want to confirm that there is only one o-ring per plug near the tip of the plug?
